Original Cast Recording of SPAMILTON Drops Tomorrow

The cast of Gerard Alessandrini's FORBIDDEN BROADWAY COMES OUT SWINGING! records the original cast CD for DRG Records today at Avatar Studios. Produced by Hugh Fordin, the release date is soon to be announced. This CD marks Forbidden Broadway's 12th cast recording with DRG Records. Featured on the original cast recording are cast members Carter Calvert, Scott Richard Foster, Mia Gentile and Marcus Stevens, with David Caldwell on piano. Matthew Morrison to Host Oscar Hammerstein Tribute on PBS, 3/3
PBS announced today that OSCAR HAMMERSTEIN II - OUT OF MY DREAMS will premiere on PBS stations beginning March 3, 2012 (check local listings). Hosted by Tony, Emmy, and Golden Globe nominated Matthew Morrison (Glee), who starred in the 2008 Tony-winning revival of South Pacific as Lieutenant Cable, the film is a celebration of the most acclaimed lyricist and librettist of the 20th century, the man who worked in the theater for over 40 years, writing the lyrics for over a thousand songs and the libretti for dozens of operettas and musicals performed on Broadway, in London and in Hollywood films. His legendary works include Rose-Marie (1924), Show Boat (1927), Oklahoma! (1943), Carousel (1945), South Pacific (1949), The King and I (1951) and The Sound of Music (1959). Brimming over with movie clips from his greatest musicals, this new PBS special features interviews with Stephen Sondheim, Harold Prince, Shirley Jones, Mitzi Gaynor, Hammerstein family members and others.

Stage Door Canteen: Broadway Responds To World War II, a new studio cast recording inspired by Ted Chapin's highly-lauded Lyrics & Lyricists program at New York's 92nd Street Y, has just been released by DRG Records. Featuring a stellar line-up of New York talent -- including Anderson Davis, Jeffry Denman, Brandon Victor Dixon, Debra Monk and Betsy Wolfe -- Stage Door Canteen presents a wide selection of musical responses to World War II, including both rarities and standards by some of the biggest songwriters of the day: Rodgers & Hammerstein, Jerome Kern, Lorenz Hart, Irving Berlin, Frank Loesser, Ira Gershwin, Cole Porter, Kurt Weill, Leonard Bernstein, Comden & Green and more.
