Seattle Rep has announced the cast and creative team for their upcoming Public Works production of The Tempest, adapted with music and new lyrics by Todd Almond and originally conceived and directed by Lear deBessonet.
BWW Spotlight: Village Theatre's 19th Annual Festival of New Musicals
It's that time of year again. One of my favorite times of year. That time when I get to spend the weekend at Village Theatre checking out the shows brought together by the folks at Village, spotlighting new works around the country. Some amazing, some needing work, but all showing promise. Now, of course, I can't review any of these. They're all still works in progress and not fully staged. But I can share what went on over the weekend as a potential coming attraction of musicals to come to a theater near you.
MAMMA MIA! Opens This Month At Seattle Musical Theatre
Escape to a small imaginary Greek island this Spring and soak up the legendary music of ABBA in all its glory! Seattle Musical Theatre presents Mamma Mia! This Award-winning musical ran on Broadway for over 14 years and earned its place as the longest running jukebox musical. "Dancing Queen", "Super Trouper," "SOS" and "Take a Chance on Me" are just a few of the iconic songs that work to weave together this charming tale of what it means to be a family.
GUTENBERG THE MUSICAL Comes to The Jewelbox Theater
The hilarious musical spoof Gutenberg! The Musical! is coming to Seattle. Local theatre favorites Kate Jaeger and Matt Giles star as two aspiring playwrights performing a staged reading of their new passion project for potential producers: a big, splashy musical about printing press inventor Johann Gutenberg. Gutenberg! The Musical! will run May 12-22, 2017 at The Jewelbox Theater at The Rendezvous (2322 2nd Ave).
