TOY STORY 3 Comes to The Granada Theatre, 3/9
The Jurkowitz Center for Community Engagement is pleased to partner with the Cliff Drive Care Center to screen Toy Story 3, the fourth installment in the 'Movies That Matter with Hal Conklin' Film Series, on Friday, March 9, 2018 at 7:00pm at The Granada Theatre. The evening will also feature a Q & A with Conklin and representatives from the Cliff Drive Care Center to engage the audience in meaningful conversations about the film. Tickets for the film are $10 or $20 and are available on GranadaSB.org or at the Box Office: (805) 899-2222. The Granda Theatre is offering a discounted family four pack of tickets for $25 and free popcorn for the Toy Story 3 movie screening.

The 'Movies That Matter with Hal Conklin' film series continues with Hidden Figures, on Monday, February 19th, at 7:00 pm at The Granada Theatre. The Jurkowitz Center for Community Engagement is pleased to partner with the Martin Luther King Jr. Committee of Santa Barbara for the screening of this next film in the beloved "Movies that Matter" series. Series moderator Hal Conklin will be joined by E. Onja Brown-Lawson, President of the Board of Directors of the Martin Luther King Jr. Committee of Santa Barbara, for a pre-screening discussion with special guest First Lieutenant Victoria Foster of Vandenberg Air Force Base. Tickets for the film screening are $10 or $20 and are available online at GranadaSB.org. The Granada Theatre is offering a special discounted family ticket package of four tickets for $25 to this screening.

Merryl Snow Zegar Joins Santa Barbara Center for the Performing Arts Board of Directors
The Santa Barbara Center for the Performing Arts (SBCPA), which owns and operates the historic Granada Theatre, welcomes Merryl Snow Zegar to the Board of Directors. Zegar boasts an expansive history in finance and fundraising, as well as extensive involvement in the arts communities of New York City and Santa Barbara, making her an important addition to the SBCPA's Board of Directors.

MOVIES THAT MATTER Film Series Concludes with 'Dead Man Walking'
The Movies that Matter with Hal Conklin Film Series comes to a close this year with a screening of the 1995 film, Dead Man Walking, on Monday, June 5, 2017 at 7:00pm. Following the series' theme of teaching audiences about forgiveness, loving others, and loving ourselves while providing a renewed enthusiasm for living life with compassion and grace, Dead Man Walking tells the remarkable story of a prisoner on death row who learns to accept God's love and come out of hiding.
The Movies That Matter Film Series presents CONCUSSION
The Granada Theatre announces the screening of Concussion, the next installment of the "Movies That Matter with Hal Conklin" Film Series on Monday, May 15, 2017 at 7:00pm. Based on an incredible true story, Concussion highlights Dr. Bennet Omalu's remarkable discovery of the relationship between football-related concussions and brain damage. Prior to the film screening, guests will enjoy a discussion between series curator and former Santa Barbara mayor, Hal Conklin, and his guests Dr. Stephen Kaminski, Medical Director of Trauma Services at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital; Melissa Grunt, CPNP, Concussion Clinic Nurse Practitioner, Cottage Children's Medical Center; and Laura Capps, Santa Barbara Unified School District Board Member who will discuss sports related head trauma in schools.
The Granada Theatre Presents For Greater GLORY
The Jurkowitz Center for Community Engagement is pleased to present For Greater Glory, the next installment of the "Movies That Matter with Hal Conklin" Film Series, on Monday, March 6, 2017 at The Granada Theatre. Set in Mexico during the Cristeros War, For Greater Glory tells the inspiring and tragic story of when the Mexican government tried unsuccessfully, but brutally, to rid the country of the influence of the Catholic Church. Part of The Granada Theatre's ongoing community engagement initiatives, this "Movie That Matters" will screen in partnership with Padres Creando Sueños (Parents Creating Dreams) and feature a pre-screening audience Q&A discussion with series curator Hal Conklin and organization representatives.
