National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene Unveils 2019-2020 'Season Of Spiritual Resistance'

On the heels of its spectacular, sold-out run of the Yiddish presentation of Fiddler on The Roof, National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene (NYTF) has announced the 2019-2020 season. For the first time ever, NYTF will present a season with four mainstage productions with a flexible season subscription. The productions, concerts and readings were curated to accompany the incoming exhibit Auschwitz: Not long ago. Not far away on display at the Museum of Jewish Heritage beginning on May 8, 2019.

Following the break-out success of Fiddler on the Roof in Yiddish, nominated for four Lucille Lortel Awards, The National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene (NYTF) will present a dramatic reading of H. Leivick's 1921 retelling of The Golem, the classic story of the Golem of Prague, which delves in the world of mysticism as a mediation on the effect of violence on the Jewish soul. It will be performed on Tuesday, May 7 at 7:30 pm at the Museum of Jewish Heritage A Living Memorial to the Holocaust, Edmond J. Safra Plaza, 36 Battery Place, NYC. Tickets are free at www.nytf.org.

The Hangar Theatre's free late-night series, The Wedge, will return to Ithaca this summer under the direction of 2016 Drama League Directing Fellows Chloe Treat, Drew Feldman, Yavor Kostov, and Katie Lupica. The Fellows will be staging productions of H. Leivick's The Golem, the world premiere of Oh Oh You Will Be Sorry! by Claire Kiechel, James Joyce's The Dead, and Salome by Oscar Wilde. The plays will last 45 minutes each and will be brought to life by the 2016 Hangar Lab Company.

The OBIE Award-winning NAATCO, National Asian American Theater Company, will kick off their 24th season with Clifford Odets's Awake & Sing! Stephen Fried directs an all-Asian American cast that includes Sanjit de Silva, Mel Duane Gionson, Andrew Ramcharan Guilarte, Mia Katigbak, Teresa Avia Lim, Jon Norman Schneider, David Shih, Alok Tewari, and Henry Yuk. This Off-Broadway limited engagement will begin August 16th at Walker Space (46 Walker Street) and continue through September 8th only. Opening Night is set for August 21st (8pm).
