BWW Interview: Aleks Pevec & Justin Michael Wilcox of SOMETHING ROTTEN! at Fred Kavli Theatre
It's always nice when we see a show that has never been performed in Ventura County so we were looking forward to seeing 5-Star Theatricals' Something Rotten!, the 2015 sendup of Shakespeare that answers the question: 'What if Shakespeare had a rival?' As you will read in our upcoming review in The Acorn, we were not disappointed. Something Rotten! is a riotous romp with a twisted premise, as brother Nick and Nigel Bottom attempt to upstage (literally) theatre superstar Willie Shakespeare with their next production: the first musical. Due to the faulty efforts of a befuddled Nostradamus, the Bottom Brothers set out to produce their musical, titled Omelette. Recently, we visited with two stars from 5-Star's production: Justin Michael Wilcox, who plays Nick Bottom, and Aleks Pevec, who plays the strutting Shakespeare.
BWW Review: THE BAND'S VISIT at The Kennedy Center " A Magical Musical Full of Heart
I really enjoyed the Eran Kolirin's 2007 Israeli-Egyptian film 'The Band's Visit' . The story involved the Alexandria Ceremonial Police Orchestra who get lost in Israel on their way to a concert performance at the Arab Cultural Center in a large city named Petal Tikvah and instead the bus they take arrives at the small town of Bet Hatikva. With the next bus not due until the next day, the musicians are invited to spend the night with the town natives (there is no hotel) and have dinner. The moving film tackles the subject of Egyptians and Israelis in 1996 who in 1967 had a hard-fought war on the Sinai Peninsula.

BWW Review: Gloucester Stage Signs Off 39th Season With World Premiere MY STATION IN LIFE
Simon Geller and WVCA-FM, his one-man classical music radio station, were part of the local color of Gloucester, Massachusetts, for 24 years. From 1964 until he retired in 1988, Geller lived, breathed, ate, and slept to single-handedly produce commercial-free broadcasts from his in-home studio, doing it his way with meager financial support from his listeners. Playwright Ken Riaf, who lives and works in Gloucester as a practicing attorney, has been developing MY STATION IN LIFE with the Gloucester Stage Company since last season's NeverDark reading. Ken Baltin returns to GSC for the first time since appearing in Neil Simon's LAST OF THE RED HOT LOVERS (2009) to bring his interpretation to this most interesting character.
BWW Review: CABARET: Goosebumps and Goose-steps
Roundabout Theatre Company's North American tour of its award-winning CABARET revival is a stunning production that stands out in high relief to the theatrics playing in our nation's capital. Fifty years after the pre-Broadway Kander and Ebb musical tried out in Boston, the show still packs a punch. Randy Harrison is mesmerizing as the Emcee, eschewing any references to the powerhouse pair of actors who preceded him in the role.
BETWEEN STATES by Sean Catt is Released
In the opening salvo of a planned series of action packed books, Sean has come at the paranormal world of shapeshifters from a different angle to most writers. Having rejected outright the bone popping, instantaneous, almost magical transformations portrayed in so many books, movies and television series, Sean attempts to bring to the reader something quite different. By making his characters more believable, he hopes to draw the reader deeper into the mysterious, shadowy world of the shapeshifters.
So next time you're in the queue at the supermarket checkout, mind the guy standing in front. You never know, he may have sharp teeth...
'They say when you look in dark places you find dark things. And trust me; I have been in some very dark places.'
-Jake Palmer
Jake Palmer and Billy Thompson meet on a desert highway in Utah. However, their meeting is no mere coincidence. Unbeknown to them, ancient, powerful forces have come together to orchestrate it, and the consequences of the two shapeshifter's initially stormy coming together are going to be more far reaching than either of them could ever imagine.
All too soon they are thrown headlong into a series of deadly encounters, and find themselves fighting for their very lives against some extremely dangerous adversaries and pursued by an obsessed father determined to get his son back.
After a rollercoaster ride of action and personal drama, the book leaves the reader on a cliff hanger of an ending, leading the way for the sequel to pick up from where Between States leaves off.
Between States is available in both print and e-book format.

A Skull Set A'Pondering
Martin McDonagh's A SKULL IN CONNEMARA reflects today's attention-span-shortened audience...Concise but clever, with laughing and bashing, a playful bit of a play...but not particularly demanding of its audience...unlike, say Eugene O'Neill's THE ICEMAN COMETH. Does 'SKULL' represent a trend in modern theater? Are the days of 4-hour plays over?
