Music Director Delta David Gier Wins 2022 Ditson Conductor's Award
Delta David Gier, distinguished conductor, is the recipient of the 2022 Ditson Conductor's Award for the advancement of American music, Columbia University has announced. Gier will receive $5,000 and a citation on behalf of Columbia's President Lee C. Bollinger. Previous recipients include Gustav Meier, David Zinman, Alan Gilbert, George Manahan, Leonard Bernstein, Marin Alsop, Oliver Knussen, and John Adams.
New Jersey Symphony Orchestra Names Tong Chen Assistant Conductor
The New Jersey Symphony Orchestra has named Tong Chen its assistant conductor for the 2021–22 season. Chen will make her subscription series debut with performances of Jessie Montgomery's Starburst on a November classical program. She will share the podium with Music Director Xian Zhang for the Orchestra's annual Lunar New Year Celebration in January.

New York Youth Symphony (NYYS), is proud to continue its mission of educating and inspiring young musicians through its Orchestra, Jazz, Chamber Music, Composition, Musical Theater Composition, Apprenticeship Conducting, and First Music commissioning programs. This season includes seven world premieres of new works commissioned through the First Music program, composed for the Orchestra, Jazz, and Chamber Music ensembles. Ms. Murray is a former BBC young generation artist, member of the Marlboro Festival and of Lincoln Center's Chamber Music Society, and has previously performed with orchestras such as Chicago Symphony, Atlanta Symphony, and BBC Symphony Orchestra. The New York Youth Symphony's March 10th program will also include Dvo k's New World Symphony No. 9 in E minor, Coleridge-Taylor's Ballade in A minor, and the world premiere of First Music commission Electric Agitation Fanfare by Theo Chandler.

Music Director Michael Repper and the New York Youth Symphony Orchestra will open their 56th season on Sunday, December 2, 2018, 2:00 pm at Carnegie Hall. The program features guitarist Jiji performing the world premiere of light, beloved, a landmark electric and classical guitar concerto composed by First Music award winner Natalie Dietterich. The piece is the first guitar concerto by a woman composer to be performed in Stern Auditorium, Perelman Stage at Carnegie Hall, marking the 35th Anniversary of the NYYS First Music commissioning program. The performance further exemplifies the NYYS mission to diversify the music community by creating unique opportunities for young musicians.

The Dallas Symphony Names Gemma New As Principal Guest Conductor
Dallas Symphony Association Chairman Sanjiv Yajnik, Music Director Designate Fabio Luisi and President & CEO Kim Noltemy announced today that conductor Gemma New has been appointed Principal Guest Conductor, Dolores G. & Lawrence S. Barzune, M.D. Chair of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. She will conduct two weeks of concerts in the 2019/20 season and three weeks of concerts in the 2020/21 season. New's appearances in 2019 will coincide with the DSO's inaugural Women in Classical Music Symposium.
