Gretchen Mol can currently be seen opposite Steve Buscemi in HBO's Martin Scorsese-produced series, Boardwalk Empire, for which Gretchen and her cast mates received the Screen Actors Guild Award for "Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Drama Series."
Recently, Mol completed production on the film True Story opposite James Franco and Jonah Hill.
Next, Mol will appear in the film Laggies alongside Keira Knightley, Chloe Grace Mortez, Sam Rockwell and Ellie Kemper. Laggies will be released in theaters on September 26, 2014. Additionally, Mol will appear in the independent film Anesthesia alongside Glenn Close, Sam Waterson, Corey Stoll and Kristen Stewart, which will be released in 2014.
In 2007 Mol starred in Lionsgate's western 3:10 to Yuma alongside Russell Crowe and Christian Bale, a role for which she received a SAG Award nomination for "Outstanding Performance by an ensemble in a Drama Series." Mol made her mark on audiences and critics with her portrayal of Bettie Paige, one of the world's most famous 1950's pin-up icons in Mary Harron's feature film, The Notorious Bettie Page, which opened to rave reviews at the 2005 Toronto International Film Festival.
The previous year, Mol starred on Broadway as Roxie Hart in Chicago. Before that she was seen in the film adaptation of Neil LaBute's The Shape of Things, alongside Paul Rudd, Rachel Weisz and Fred Weller, which premiered at the 2003 Sundance Film Festival. Mol also starred off-Broadway in the theatrical version of The Shape of Things after completion of its London run all with the same cast.
Mol made her film debut in Spike Lee's Girl 6 as Girl 12. Additional credits include: Music From Another Room, Abel Ferrara's The Funeral, The Last Time I Committed Suicide, The Thirteenth Floor, Rounders, Celebrity, Forever Mine, The Ten, Trainwreck: My Life as an Idiot, Puccini for Beginners, Just Looking and An American Affair. Mol's telefilm credits include Lifetime's Emmy-nominated The Memory Keeper's Daughter, Picnic, The Magnificent Ambersons, Calm at Sunset, Calm at Dawn, The Valley of Light and Dead Man's Walk. Mol's television series credits include an appearance in the debut episode of the ABC hit, Spin City, and later a starring role in the David E. Kelley ABC series Life on Mars. Born in Connecticut and a graduate of the William Esper Studio and the American Musical and Dramatic Academy, she began acting professionally in numerous commercials and various theater productions, including, Bus Stop, An Actor's Nightmare, No Exit, Godspell, and 110 in the Shade among others. Mol resides with her family in New York.
