BIO

Gilbert was born and raised in the beautiful and sunny Albuquerque, New Mexico. His childhood was full of reading and singing which gave him a wild imagination.

As a child, he loved singing. His parents would sit him by the choir at Church so that he could belt his little curly head off. People would purposefully sit by him, and that was his first audience; he loved it. A few years later, the movie Selena came out and changed his life. He would often perform Selena karaoke at parties and family functions. Christmas wasn't Christmas until Gilbert sang something from Selena. From there, he starred in middle school musicals and that’s when he caught the acting bug.

Gilbert went on to major in theatre from the University of New Mexico where he graduated with honors in 2012. In college, he was fortunate to work on roles as Collins in Rent, and Dr. Frank-N-Furter in The Rocky Horror Show. "Don't dream it, be it."

Gilbert currently lives in Harlem, New York and has worked with many theatre companies including The John W. Engaman, Astoria Performing Arts Center, The Westchester Broadway Theatre, and NYMF.

OVER HERE! - Back with the Beat at The Triad

On Monday night, Over Here! The Big Band Musical was back in New York at The Triad Theatre for the first time since its original 1974 Broadway production and the joint was jumpin'. Veteran's Day proved to be the perfect time to revive this beloved celebration of the American spirit and optimism that defined the 1940's. To make it even more worthwhile, a portion of the proceeds from the evening was donated to Vietnam Veterans of America. Over Here! is one of this journalist's favorite musicals, so I was thrilled to have it back on the boards. Under the razor-sharp direction of Will Nunziata, who is quickly becoming a go-to director, this feel-good show sparkled and shined like a freshly polished diamond. It featured a stellar cast of 19, plus an 11-piece swing band, under musical director extraordinaire Blake Allen. Choreographer Andrew Black used every inch of space to give us one eye-popping musical number after another.

BWW Reviews: GODSPELL at Westchester Broadway Theatre

Even before the first act of Godspell began, the energy was palpable in the room. I do not think I have seen a more packed audience at Westchester Broadway Theatre in quite a while; especially since most of the shows presented there are more conventional.
