BIO

GIL VAROD (Book) is a bookwriter/lyricist whose musical ?Oedipus for Kids? extended and sold out at NYMF, was published by Samuel French with productions across North America, and was featured in a concert edition at Feinstein?s/54 Below last year. His twisted Christmas Cabaret "Merry Christmas, You Ridiculous Gentiles" was a sold out hit at the Duplex and spawned the viral hit "It's Gonna Be A Bruce Springsteen Christmas For All The Little Girls And Boys [Of New Jersey]". Other works include TIME ET AL (FringeNYC), THE COMMUTERS AND OTHER CAUTIONARY TALES OF TRANSIT (Dramatists Guild Footlight Series, Riant Theatre , 5 nominations/2 awards), A JURY LINE and THE ZEGEND OF LELDA (West Village Musical Theatre Festival, Winner Best Lyrics/Book/Musical), THE COMPLETE WORKS OF WALT DISNEY ABRIDGED (Walt Disney Imagineering), and RANSOMWHERE? and TIME TRAVEL MAKES COMPLETE SENSE at the Lincoln Center LPA. Gil has studied at the BMI Musical Theatre Writing Workshop and is possibly best known for his website ?Broadway Abridged?, featuring satirical scripts skewering plays and musicals, which are secretly passed around backstage by Broadway cast members like illegal love notes in math class.

IndieWorks Announces BITE-SIZED BROADWAY- A Mini-Musical Podcast

IndieWorks Theatre Company has announced the first season of its new podcast, Bite-Sized Broadway, a Mini-Musical Podcast. The first season features ten 50-minute episodes that showcase fully-produced, digitally-orchestrated 'mini-musicals' followed by in-depth conversations with our 18 writers from around the globe. Writers will have the opportunity to share about their process, careers, and current and upcoming works. The first episode will premiere on Monday, October 5, with new episodes on the first and third Monday of each month.

First up is the new documentary musical 45 Minutes from Coontown, which traces the history of black musical theatre and is the second installment in The Show Time! Trilogy; the season continues with Sex, Satire, and Song, an exhibit curated for Yale University; Diversity and the Birth of Broadway, a two-part lecture series for the Library of Congress; and concludes with the new musical revue *The Passing Show of 2019. UMC's 2019 season launched in March with the UMC Writers Lab*.

The Strawberry One-Act and Theater Festival to Run 7/14-31

The Riant Theatre (Van Dirk Fisher, Artistic Director), a nonprofit theatre providing a nurturing environment to playwrights and theatremakers of diverse cultural backgrounds, proudly presents the 29th Season of the Strawberry One-Act and Theatre Festival. The festival opens on July 14th and runs through July 31st. Each evening will feature a program of one to four plays out of twenty-nine one-act works presented in competition, and on selected evenings, one of five full-length plays.
