BWW Review: Big Love for AS YOU LIKE IT at the Milwaukee Repertory Theatre
At the crossroads of the Bard and Beatlemania lies the fantastic As You Like It. Full disclosure: I’m smack-dab in the middle of the target audience, where the Shakespeare-loving (or at least willing) meet Beatles fans. But I believe this genre-mashup would be terrific fun for anyone. The show takes a classic Shakespearean rom-com and threads Beatles songs throughout. And yes, it totally works.

Vancouver's Acclaimed Butoh Dance Company Reimagines a Lifetime of Work
Kokoro Dance - Vancouver, B.C, presents the world premiere of Reading the Bones, a work for six dancers distilled from the 33-year history of Kokoro Dance's butoh-inspired creations. Performances take place at 8pm, Sept 18th - 21st and 25th - 28th at the Roundhouse Community Arts & Recreation Centre. Kokoro Dance co-founders, Barbara Bourget and Jay Hirabayashi, are reimagining choreography from their past works, and setting their powerful, provocative, and passionate movement on Katie Cassady (in her 20's), Molly McDermott (in her 30's), Deanna Peters close to her 40's), Salomé Nieto (in her 50's), and themselves. Bourget is now in her 60's and Hirabayashi, in his 70's. This 50-year generational spread gives uniquely rich and deep nuances to the performances. Music for the new work is by Joseph Hirabayashi; lighting by Gerald King.
BWW Review: MATILDA THE MUSICAL Sets the Bar High for Vancouver's Summer Musicals
Growing up, Matilda was both a book and movie that was well-loved in many households. The peculiarity of the Wormwood household, the magic of Matilda's powers, and the bone-shaking wrath of Miss Trunchbull was felt by readers and audiences near and far. This month, Arts Club brought Roald Dahl's classic tale to life with its production of MATILDA THE MUSICAL. Playing at the Stanley Industrial Alliance Stage in Vancouver from May 16th to July 14th, Arts Club does not disappoint with this truly remarkable show.
