BIO

Georgina Bates is a NY based actor, dancer, and choreographer/director. Recently her dance film Unstoppable was selected from the #mydancefilm campaign and screened at the Film Society of Lincoln Center for the Dance Films Association?s Dance on Camera festival 2018. The film was also chosen for DANCE SHORTS, produced by The Physical Plant and Directed By Women - Shorts of All Sorts Festival 2018. Georgina also choreographed Cloud Kumo, winner of numerous short film awards, including a Student Academy Award (2016). Recent productions includes: Man Frog & Other People (Planet Connections Festivity 2018), The (Last) Station (Planet Connections Festivity 2017, Outstanding Choreography nomination), Somehow We End Up Here, Again (HERE, Sublet Co-Op Series), The Master and Margarita (West End Theater), Somehow We End Up Here (CollabFest 2016 -Triskelion Arts), ACLU Freedom Concert (Holy Trinity), Crime and Punishment (West End Theatre), R/Evolution (Robert Moss Theater), Swimming at the Ritz (NJ Rep). Georgina?s work has also been presented at NYU, IDA Art Gallery, Pianos, Slake, and various world peace festivals at Madison Square Garden, City Center, Town Hall, Lincoln Center. M.F.A: Dance, NYU, Tisch School of the Arts, B.A. Theatre Performance, MMC. Member of the SDCF Observership Class 2016 -2017, League of Professional Theatre Women.

The migrant, both voluntary and forced, is a recurring motif for dance choreographers who have ever sought to invigorate the traumas of exiled refugees, the discoveries of vagabond travelers and the insights of spiritual voyagers through plays of bodily movement. In a time when immigrants and artists are at the frontline of social cause, such live theater artworks as Somehow We End Up Here, Again directed by Georgina Bates in collaboration with journalist Jihii Jolly and documentarian Diana Diroy have the power to provoke movement, not only from dance artists, but from the greater society in solidarity with those individuals and nations whose movements are politicized.
