2022 National Evening of Science on Screen Announced
The Alfred P. Sloan Foundation and the Coolidge Corner Theatre have announced the 2022 National Evening of Science on Screen®, coming to cinemas across the nation on Tuesday, March 22, 2022. That evening, participating organizations will use one of the nation’s favorite pastimes—going to the movies—to promote public understanding of science.
Film Movement Launches a Virtual Cinema for First-Run Releases
In an effort to support cinema aficionados and movie theaters during these difficult and unprecedented times, beginning Friday, March 20, New York-based distributor Film Movement, in collaboration Art House Convergence, will offer consumers a virtual theatrical experience with current first-run releases and newly-restored classics. Through their signature streaming platform, FILM MOVEMENT PLUS, movie exhibitors will have the opportunity to open their virtual doors and invite their patrons to rent new theatrical release they'd otherwise be enjoying in their local art house theaters.
Alex Jennings to Appear Live at the Siskel Film Center
Three-time Olivier Award winner Alex Jennings (Netflix's The Crown), in Chicago rehearsing for his upcoming role in the Tony Award-winning musical, The Light in the Piazza, at the Lyric Opera House Dec. 14-29, will make a special appearance at the Gene Siskel Film Center of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (164 N. State Street) following the National Theatre Live screening of the engrossing new work, Hansard, in which he co-stars with Olivier and Tony Award-winning actress Lindsay Duncan (Private Lives), Friday evening, December 6, at 7:45pm. Jennings will be on hand afterwards to answer questions about his acclaimed Broadway, West End, and TV career.

Arts Alliance Illinois Executive Director Claire Rice, Broadway In Chicago President Lou Raizin and Vice President Eileen LaCario, and League of Chicago Theatres Executive Director Deb Clapp, are pleased to announce the 2019 Chicago Mayoral Arts Forum on Sunday, February 10, 2019 at Broadway In Chicago's Broadway Playhouse, located at 175 East Chestnut Street in Chicago. Open to the general public, the event begins at 6pm and will conclude at approximately 8pm. While admission to the 2019 Chicago Mayoral Arts Forum is free, space is strictly limited and sold out. SISTAS ON FIRE Comes to the East Village Playhouse
The personal becomes the political when passionately-opinionated African American women speak their minds on the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, Black Lives Matter, missing black women and girls, black-on-black crime, and male/female relationships in a soul-stirring mix of song, dance, poetry, and prose. The interrelated dramatic monologues range from tragedy to comedy in a 'newsical' revue that examines pressing social issues from an African-American female perspective. Sistas on Fire! A Newsical uses theatre to provoke thought, encourage social activism, and build bridges that cross race, class, gender and culture. In short, it's For Colored Girls for the New Millennium.
