BIO

Gary John La Rosa has directed and/or choreographed well over two hundred productions nationally. Some recent credits include Les Misérables; the 10th Anniversary National Tour of Footloose; the World Premiere of Michael Ching’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream - Opera A Cappella (Opera Memphis); Fiddler on the Roof (starring Brad Oscar) at Barrington Stage Company (BroadwayWorld Awards: Best Direction & Choreography); The Sound of Music (starring Rex Smith); Fiddler… at both the St Louis MUNY (Judy Award – Outstanding Direction) and Starlight Theatre in Kansas City; Annie Get Your Gun, Hairspray, Aida, Footloose and West Side Story at Sacramento Music Circus; The Light in the Piazza and next to normal at Playhouse on the Square (Ostrander Award for Direction); Always…Patsy Cline (starring Sally Struthers); Grease, Fiddler on the Roof and Romance/Romance at the Fulton Theatre; The Full Monty at Phoenix Theatre; La Cage aux Folles at Downtown Cabaret (Connecticut Critic’s Circle Award – Outstanding Direction); Annie at the Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma, and many corporate shows (including: TGI Fridays, Goodyear, Dunkin’ Donuts, Canon, Alcon, Sam’s Club and Samsung). For six years he was the resident director for MOC Musical Theatre in Montclair, NJ. New York credits include Marry Me a Little (starring Brent Barrett and Sally Mayes) at Queens Theatre; Pins and Needles (starring Karen Mason and Jim Walton) at Jewish Rep.; In My Dream… at the Vortex and workshops of several new musicals. He has been a guest director at numerous universities including SUNY Buffalo (Kennedy Center Award) and is a sought after musical theatre coach in NYC.
