BWW Review: Encore Theatre District's BEYOND THERAPY is a Fine Production.
Encore Theatre District is providing a welcome addition to the Coachella Valley theatre scene. The cast of its current play, Durang's BEYOND THERAPY, is filled with talented performers who all do a fine job with their roles and who provide a great deal of laughs. Director Tiffanie Patscheck has the actors engage in some very funny visual business, much of it involving glasses of water and a yoga-obsessed therapist, which alone are worth seeing.Â

BWW Review: Both Provocative And Poignant â€" And All Played In Pumps! CASA VALENTINA Engages, Educates And Delights At Dezart Performs In Palm Springs
I had the absolute pleasure of seeing two things last night that I had never seen before. A production of Harvey Fierstein's CASA VALENTINA and a sold out, standing room only crowd at The Pearl McManus Theatre. Brava to Dezart Performs on both counts!! CASA VALENTINA is the premiere performance of Dezart's ninth season in Palm Springs and sets a high barre for the season to come. Based on real events, Casa Valentina (or The Chevalier d'Eon) is a resort in The Catskills in the early 1960's whose guests are heterosexual men who dress and act as women. It is the story of gender identity and self acceptance and a close-knit group of men who never feel more "themselves" than when dressed as the women who live somewhere deep inside them.Â
BWW Review: Desert Rose's LOOT is a Bizarre, Irreverent Hoot
LOOT, a 1965 satirical farce -- a bizarre, dark parody of an English drawing room comedy -- by British enfant terrible Joe Orton, is a difficult production. Desert Rose Playhouse, in Rancho Mirage, California, pulls it off. Excellent acting and directing result in a great deal of hilarity.
