BWW Interview: Gail Schickele of SOLO ARTS HEAL at MarshStream Helps Us Explore Serious Issues with Humor and Heart

As we all continue to navigate our way through these unprecedented times, The Marsh is meeting this moment with its weekly Solo Arts Heal series, which uses lightness and humor to explore some of the challenging issues we’re all grappling with. The series comes from artists’ inspiring true stories that celebrate overcoming adversity; surviving emotional, mental, and physical challenges; and becoming health advocates. The vulnerability of the participating artists leads listeners through their personal journeys of trauma and healing. Producer, writer and longtime champion of the Arts and Sciences Gail Schickele is host of the informative and entertaining series, available to stream every Wednesday at 7:30pm (PST) on MarshStream. Sarasota Actor Shot in Head On Stage and Survives!

An 81-year-old actor Fred Kellerman almost gave everything to the craft of acting. According to reports by MSNBC, 'The incident happened Sunday on the final practice run by a seniors theater group for their production of John Steinbeck's 'Of Mice and Men.' One actor picked up a pistol he had borrowed from another cast member and fired it at the head of fellow actor Fred Kellerman, who was playing the character Lenny. At the end of the play, Lenny takes a fatal gunshot to the head.' The bullet grazed Fred Kellerman's scalp and he was rushed to hospital from the stage at the Manatee theatre on the west coast of the sunshine state.

'Lilli Marlene' a new musical featuring the hits of the WWII era starring Linn Maxwell, opened on Monday, September 22nd at the Abington Theater (312 West 36th Street). Directed by Erv Raible, with a book by Kathryn Ryan, the show features such songs as 'As Time Goes By', 'A Nightingale Sang in Berkley Square', 'It Had To Be You', 'The White Cliffs of Dover', 'Mad About the Boy' and 'Lilli Marlene', which was made famous by legendary Marlene Dietrich. Paul Trueblood is the musical director.
