KPFK Radio's Arts in Review Preps for Annual Holiday Special
KPFK Radio's Arts in Review, Los Angeles's longest-running radio showcase on live theater and cabaret, presents its annual Christmas Day Holiday Drama Special, aired in two parts (10 to 11am & 1pm to 2pm), highlighted by the radio dramatization premieres of All is Calm, All is Bright ( The Story of Silent Night ) & One Horse Open Sleigh ( The Story of Jingle Bells ), performed by the Arts in Review (AIR) Repertory Players. This special broadcast will also offer the 14th annual concert presentation of Dylan Thomas' A Child's Christmas in Wales, featuring actor Al Alu, and an encore presentation of AIR Repertory's The Christmas Eve Truce. Hosted by entertainment journalist Julio Martinez, the program airs on KPFK 90.7.FM, and streamed live worldwide on kpfk.org.

Celebrating her 15th solo appearance at Carnegie Hall, classical pianist Katya Grineva presents an evening of holiday music and virtuoso romantic masterpieces for one night only, Today, December 26th at 8:00 p.m. The Russian native, whose dream it was to one day play at the iconic venue, is the first woman to perform as a soloist at Carnegie this many times. Known for her deep connetion to the Romantics, Katya mixes staples by Mozart and Chopin with various seasonal chestnuts. Performing works from her latest album A Classical Holiday, Katya showcases new arrangements of Christmas classics including Silent Night, Sleigh Ride, and My Favorite Things as well as traditional carols and pieces from The Nutcracker. From today, February 21 to March 16, 2014, Carnegie Hall presents Vienna: City of Dreams, a three-week citywide festival featuring more than 90 events, all inviting audiences to discover the extraordinary artistic legacy of Vienna. The festival features symphonic and operatic masterpieces, chamber music, and lieder, as well as new sounds emerging from this historic cultural capital. In addition to music, Vienna: City of Dreams shines a spotlight on Vienna's visual art, film, architecture, politics, science, and history, creating an extensive look at a city that for centuries has drawn artists, dreamers, and innovators from all corners of the world to its dazzling intellectual and artistic life.
Franz Welser-Most to Conduct Wozzeck at Carnegie Hall, 2/28
Carnegie Hall today announced that conductor Franz Welser-Most has graciously agreed to step in for Daniele Gatti in the concert performance of Alban Berg's opera Wozzeck on Friday, February 28 at 8:00 p.m. in Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage. The concert by the Vienna State Opera and Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra is part of Carnegie Hall's three-week, citywide festival Vienna: City of Dreams. Due to a tendinopathy (acute inflammation of the tendon) of both shoulders, Maestro Daniele Gatti-on the advice of his doctors-with deep regret cancels all his professional engagements for the next two months, including his two Vienna: City of Dreams programs, scheduled for February 28 and March 15 at Carnegie Hall. A new conductor for the March 15 concert by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra is to be announced.
