Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company Presents The Fourth IMAGINE ELLIS ISLAND ARTS FESTIVAL
The National Park Service in partnership with Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company presents the Ellis Island Asian American Heritage Festival on Sunday, May 19, 2019, with ceremony and performances starting at 12 noon at The Great Hall of Immigration at Ellis Island, located on the second floor of the main Ellis Island building. A full schedule of performances of one hour by nationally renowned artists and performers will celebrate the 2019 Asian American Heritage Month with the National Park Service. The festival will showcase traditional and contemporary Asian American Music and Dance, with notable performing artists from the community in New York and New Jersey including the Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company, Kindling Sindaw (Philipines), Vietnam Heritage Center, the Kalagangothri Foundation (India), and H?lau Hula O Na Mele '?ina O Hawaii'(Hawaii).

A full schedule of performances and educational workshops given by notable speakers will celebrate the 2018 Asian American Heritage Month with National Park Service. The festival will showcase traditional and contemporary Asian American Music and Dance, with notable performing artists from the community in New York and New Jersey including the Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company, the Asian American Dragon and Lion Association (AADL), Kindling Sindaw (Philipines), Vietnam Heritage Center, the Kalagangothri Foundation (India), and H?lau Hula O Na Mele '?ina O Hawaii'(Hawaii).
La Mama Presents Kinding Sindaw in PAGBABALIK: TRACING THE PATH HOME, Now thru 4/27
'Pagbabalik: Tracing the Path Home' by Kinding Sindaw (http://kindingsindaw.org), the New York-based southern Philippine performance troupe, entwines a contemporary story of the modern Philipines with a dramatic adaptation of the third chapter of the epic Derangen. The Derangen is a Mindanao epic shared by the Maranao, Maguindanao and Iranun tribes of the southern Philippines which celebrates episodes from regional history and stories of the tribulations of mythical heroes. This splendorous new work of dance theater is conceived and directed by Potri Ranka Manis, the daughter of a Sultan of the Maranao people of Mindanao, a true modern-day princess and tradition-bearer. La MaMa E.T.C. will present the piece today, April 24 to 27 in its Ellen Stewart Theatre, 66 East Fourth Street.
