La MaMa Celebrates Groundbreaking Event At Flagship Venue
One of the oldest theaters in NYC - 74 E. 4 St., home to the 2018 Tony Award-winning La MaMa in the East Village - will mark the start of its first-ever restoration and renovation since the building was constructed in 1873 with a GROUNDBREAKING EVENT attended by Tony winning composer and longtime La MaMa company member SCOTT WITTMAN (Hairspray, the upcoming remake of Mary Poppins), NYC Deputy Mayor ALICIA GLEN, TOM FINKELPEARL (Commissioner of the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs), BRAD HOYLMAN (NY State Senator), NYC Council Member CARLINA RIVERA, the world-renowned National Medal of Arts recipient PING CHONG, La MaMa Artistic Direct MIA YOO and Board President FRANK CARUCCI, along with performers from the SPIDERWOMAN THEATRE and THE SILVER CLOUD SINGERS.
La MaMa Fills 57th Season with Over 50 Premieres
On the heels of having won the 2018 Regional Theater Tony Award, LA MAMA Experimental Theatre Club (ETC) announces its 57th season of productions, according to Mia Yoo, the company's artistic director. The season includes over 50 U.S., NYC and world premiere productions.

La MaMa to Open New 150-Seat Downstairs Theater This Fall with SHANK'S MARE
A new 6,500 square-foot multi-disciplinary venue -- named THE DOWNSTAIRS -- featuring a 150-seat theater, a large exhibition space, and a classroom -- will open this fall at La MaMa's Annex (66 E. 4 St.), it was announced today by Mia Yoo, La MaMa's artistic director. Ms. Parsons, who appeared last fall at La MaMa in Marco Calvani's play THINGS OF THIS WORLD directed by Neil LaBute, and Mr. Swords, who served as a member of the La MaMa Board for 25 years, wascelebrated at the event by personal and video tributes from playwrights Warren Leight and Mr. LaBute.
