PREformances with Allison Charney to Feature Mezzo Soprano Hyona Kim
Mezzo soprano Hyona Kim will join PREformances with Allison Charney classical concert series on November 27th for the second concert of its 2017-18 debut Season at Merkin Concert Hall at Kaufman Music Center. Ms. Kim joins host and founder soprano Allison Charney in a program which will feature preformances by Royal Stockholm Philharmonic cellist Kajsa William-Olsson who will play Martinu's Cello Concerto, No. 1 as she prepares to perform it with full orchestra later this season; Orchestra of St. Luke's principal flutist Elizabeth Mann who will play Prokofiev's Flute Sonata with pianist Donna Weng in advance of their upcoming concert at Princeton and the ARK trio, who will perform Michael Ching's reimagining's of five of Schubert's classic songs in his cycle Arrangements and Derangements: Interpretations of Schubert.
The Met to Celebrate James Levine's 70th Birthday with Special Programming on Sirius XM this Weekend
The Metropolitan Opera will celebrate its longtime Music Director James Levine's 70th birthday with two full days of special programming on Met Opera Radio (Sirius XM Channel 74). The weekend-long marathon will feature 14 classic Levine performances, hand-picked by the maestro himself, beginning on Saturday, June 22 and continuing through midnight on Levine's birthday, Sunday, June 23. The first broadcast, at 6 a.m. Saturday, will be a 1991 performance of Verdi's Un Ballo in Maschera starring Luciano Pavarotti; the celebration will conclude at 12 a.m. on Monday, June 24 with a 1994 performance of Verdi's rarely heard Stiffelio, starring Placido Domingo in the title role. Opera Singer Evelyn Lear Passes Away at 86
Lyric Opera of Chicago joins the rest of the international operatic community in mourning the death of the legendary American soprano Evelyn Lear, whose career was one of the most varied and distinguished of any American singer of her time. She died in Sandy Spring, Maryland, at the age of 86.
