A young model from Ohio became one of Photographer George Mark's favorite models while pioneering "stock photgraphy", and founding The Black Box Agency. Featured in the December 16, 1940 issue of "Life" magazine as the "most photgraphed legs in the world". Ms. Carmel had various roles in film, and Broadway as well as a stint as a "Rockette" at Radio City Music Hall. She was also a "Macy's Girl" as the "blonde" model who made numerous appearances through out New York, and attended various social events as a representative of everything Macy's considered glamorous for its time.
Ms. Carmel continued her popularity as a model, and performed in one of the earliest known Music Videos in "three little sisters" by the Murphy Sisters. Ms. Carmel had the role as a "model" in 1942's "The Lady Comes Across".
After marrying notorious gangster and professional gambler, George Uffner, Ms. Carmel settled into a life as a glamorous and elusive Manhattan jet-setter. Walter Winchell continued to give regular updates of Ms. Carmel's career in his weekly syndicated colunm well into 1944.
