Cabaret Convention Returning to Town Hall
It's an undeniable, outstanding, and extraordinary musical milestone, to be sure: 2015 marks the thirtieth anniversary of The Mabel Mercer Foundation! Not only has the organization survived the ongoing and vastly fluctuating public tastes in music, lyrics, and performers, it has proliferated and burgeoned in its three decades of commitment to the classic, "Great Popular Songbook" -- both past and present.
THE MARVELOUS WONDERETTES: CAPS AND GOWNS Opens 8/14 at Weston's Second Stage
The Marvelous Wonderettes: Caps and Gowns, Roger Bean's family-friendly jukebox musical, opens August 14th at Weston's second stage and will have audiences laughing, tapping their toes, and singing along (softly, please) with popular songs from the 50s and 60s. If you saw the prequel, which had a very successful run in Weston in 2010, you know you're in for a good time.

A treasure trove of amazing movie themes and songs that didn't reach the winners' circle on Oscar Night! 'Lost Movie Themes' is a celebration of the songwriters for whom it was an honor just to be nominated, interpreted by some of Broadway's most exciting talent. An evening of the unforgettable, the forgotten and the egregiously overlooked, filled with stories about the songs and the making of the movies themselves.

CABARET LIFE NYC: Sunday at the Cabaret with Corinna, Eva and Lianne -- Two Out of Three Ain't Bad
When you're a cabaret reviewer on the evening show prowl between Monday night and Saturday evening (although not every night, thank goodness), you'd like to think that the God of Cabaret would make Sunday a day of rest. No such luck, since the weekend allows clubs to book shows as early as brunch time. I learned this again early this month when I felt compelled to attend three shows starring charming female singers-Corinna Sowers-Adler at Stage 72 (the Triad), Eva Kantor at the Laurie Beechman, and Lianne Marie Dobbs at the Metropolitan Room. I didn't break my personal Sunday record of four shows in one day set in late January (yes, I should be committed), but there was a two-hour break in this mix so it still turned out to be an 8-hour cabaret extravaganza. (Thank you, oh God of Cabaret, for press comps!) While it would have been sweet for the musical marathon to have been a clean sweep of excellent shows, as Meat Loaf might croon, 'Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad.'
Eva Kantor Appears on BROADWAY AFTER DARK Tonight
