Ernest Cutting received his early musical education in England and studied piano and theory under Professor Cripps of Leipsig Conservatory. As a concert pianist he appeared at Albert Hall and St. James' Hall in London, and at the same concert auditoriums he accompanied many of Europe's well known concert artists in recitals. He appeared also as solo pianist with the symphony orchestras.
Later he adopted the theatre and as musical director for Great Britian's best known theatrical producers, toured the world, playing in the principal cities of Europe, Egypt, India, Burma, Java, China, Japan, South Africa, South America, and the West Indies, with Light and Comic Opera repertoire.
In the United States he conducted many Broadway musical shows for the Shuberts, Erlanger, Schwab & Mandel, and others which included "Little Jesse James", "My Girl", "Merry, Merry", "The Girl Friend", "The Ramblers", "Texas Guinan's Padlocks", "Honeymoon Lane", and "Follow Through".
He has recorded for all the important phonograph recording companies. For 2 years he conducted for Paul Whiteman, and as business manager, accompanied Mr. Whiteman on his trip to England for the review, "Brighter London" at the London Hippodrome and the engagement at Grafton Galleries.
In 1930, Mr. Cutting joined the staff of NBC. When the new Waldorf-Astoria opened it's doors in 1931, he was appointed as NBC's representative in charge of all music and entertainment in that famous hostelry.
