Actors' Shakespeare Project presents A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM
Actors' Shakespeare Project closes its 13th season with the definitive Shakespearean recipe for mirth and magic. Start with equal parts poetry and wit, add one misapplied love potion, stir in a feuding celestial couple, and finish with the most unintentionally awful play-within-a-play ever created, and you get A Midsummer Night's Dream. Directed by Patrick Swanson (Revels' Artistic Director), the production features Resident Acting Company members Steven Barkhimer* (Bottom), Sarah Newhouse* (Puck), and Paula Plum* (Titania) (Picture left by Nile Scott Shots.) Performances are May 10 - June 4, 2017 (Press Performance Saturday, May 13, 2017, 8 PM) at Multicultural Arts Center, 41 Second Street, Cambridge. BWW Review: A Battle of Beliefs in Danai Gurira's THE CONVERT at Central Square Theatre
In a blackout we hear shouting. The front door of a minister's house is kicked opened. Enter a man dragging in a native woman wearing rags. He hands her off to the housekeeper. The housekeeper barks a few commands and forces her into a back room. The opening scene of Underground Railway Theatre's must see production of The Convert, Danai Gurira's three hour intoxicating drama about 19th century Africa post-colonialism, is spoken in the native language of Shona. Although Shona is not commonly spoken in America, it is clear what we just witnessed. Freedom. Or so we believe.

Brave New World Rep's THE MERRY WIVES OF WINDSOR (TERRACE) Runs 4/25-5/6
Shakespeare fans can celebrate the Bard's birthday with a Brooklyn accent at Brave New World Repertory Theatre's acclaimed production of "The Merry Wives of Windsor (Terrace)" which, with a few minor adjustments, sets the comedy of the working classes in Brooklyn's Windsor Terrace in the Big Hair 1980s. The production re-imagines Falstaff as a befuddled mob boss and Mistress Ford and Mistress Page as the-real-housewives-of-Brooklyn-with an eye for mischief and an ear for the traditional Brooklyn accent of the time. Minor script changes turn the River Thames into the Gowanus Canal.
