My name is Ellie Handel (she/her/hers) and I am an actor, director, and stage manager living in New York City. I hold a BFA in Drama from NYU's Tisch School for the Arts, where I studied Musical Theatre at the New Studio on Broadway.
While at NYU, I played roles like The Man in Chair in The Drowsy Chaperone, Small Alison in the collegiate premiere of Fun Home, and Sister Mary Patrick in Sister Act. Other favorite credits include Tracy Turnblad in Hairspray, the Narrator in Joseph, and Ursula in The Little Mermaid.
As a director, I am passionate about highlighting stories that have yet to be told and specialize in cultivating new plays and musicals. Recently, I was nominated for Best Director at NY Summerfest for the new musical Aussie Song, written by Frances Rae Key. As a writer, my one-act musical, The Wives of Henry the Eighth, was produced at Royal Family Theatre in May 2019.
And finally, I am also a freelance stage manager and have worked at venues like The Town Hall, The Duke at 42nd Street, Theatre Row, The Davenport Theatre, NYU's Skirball Center, and HERE Arts Center.
I love what I do, and am always looking for whatever my next project will be!
