EDINBURGH 2023: Review: HOLLYWOODN'T, Gilded Balloon Teviot

Directed by Elizabeth Kaye Sortun, while it offers a look at the complexities of toxic dynamics, coercion, consent, and control, it doesn’t truly achieve its goal. Verlo’s past is colourful and intriguing, but this isn’t the production that makes it shine. It lacks the aplomb that inspires reflection and change, settling on underwhelming attempts at cheap laughs.

BWW Review: BABETTE'S FEAST at Taproot Theatre

BABETTE’S FEAST nourishes the soul and feeds the spirit. It is a sweet story about the beauty of life and finding contentment. Told slowly without the need to rush, we meet the characters and traipse along with them through their lives in the small Norweigan town of Berlevaag. It is a story of insiders and outsiders who cross paths, the story of what is expected and what is desired, and a story of finding answers within yourself, and mostly a story of home. And much like the turtle soup, BABETTE’s FEAST is the show we didn’t even know we were hungry for until we got the first bite.
BWW Review: FACETED PERFECTION IN JEWELS BALANCHINE'S GEM PERFORMED BY THE FAMOUS MARIINSKY BALLET at Dorothy Chandler Pavilion

ometimes it's nice not to have to follow a dramatic storyline throughout a ballet, and just be able to enjoy the performances, the artistry, the costumes, the captivating choreography and the whole presentation. This, is such a ballet. Before the performance began, there was a wonderful, informative and interesting lecture, or talk, given on the expansive and beautiful mezzanine of the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion by Elizabeth Kaye. It's worth the fight through the rush-hour traffic to get there in time to listen to her expound on the history and trademarks of this impeccable and invaluable Ballet Company. It so enhances everything when you see the performance. It is an offering from Glory Kaufman Presents: Dance at the Music Center at the Los Angeles' premiere venue for dance, the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion.
The Music Center Presents The Mariinsky Ballet And Orchestra's Performances Of George Balanchine's JEWELS

The opening of the 17th season of Glorya Kaufman Presents Dance at The Music Center (Dance at The Music Center), programmed by TMC Arts, will sparkle as two of the world's preeminent arts organizations, Mariinsky Ballet and Mariinsky Orchestra, return to Los Angeles with five performances of George Balanchine's Jewels at The Music Center's Dorothy Chandler Pavilion from October 24a?"27, 2019. Jewels, a fan favorite, was choreographed by Balanchine in 1967 and is considered the first great three-act abstract ballet. The jewel motif, sustained by costumes and décor, is actually a device to unify sections that would otherwise be disparate; each act is distinct in its style and choreographed to music by a different composer. Since receiving its first performance at the Mariinsky in 1999, Jewels has become a core part of the company's repertoire.
