The Jewish Museum will present Edith Halpert and the Rise of American Art, the first exhibition to explore the remarkable career of Edith Gregor Halpert (1900-1970), the influential American art dealer and founder of the Downtown Gallery in New York City. A pioneer in the field and the first significant female gallerist in the United States, Halpert propelled American art to the fore at a time when the European avant-garde still enthralled the world. The artists she supported a?" Stuart Davis, Jacob Lawrence, Georgia O'Keeffe, Yasuo Kuniyoshi, Ben Shahn, and Charles Sheeler key among them a?" became icons of American modernism. David will design a multi-floor installation in our New York headquarters, responding to the centuries of American history and craftsmanship on view. The Americana Week exhibitions open to the public today 11 January.

Brooklyn Museum Presents 'Ten Years Later: Ground Zero Remembered,' 9/7-10/30
The Brooklyn Museum will commemorate the tenth anniversary of the attack on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001, with an installation, Ten Years Later: Ground Zero Remembered, the focal point of which will be a work in the late Michael Richards's Tuskegee Airmen Series (1997) and Christoph Draeger's photographic jigsaw puzzle WTC, September 17 (2003). The works will be displayed alongside two 2002 comment books filled with text and images by visitors who viewed images documenting 9/11 displayed on the first anniversary of the tragic events.

The Frist Center for the Visual Arts' 2012 exhibition schedule offers a wide variety of exhibitions in the Center's Ingram Gallery. These include masterpieces of American art from the famed Phillips Collection in Washington, D.C.; an exhibition combining quilts from Gee's Bend, Ala., and the monumental assemblages of Alabama native Thornton Dial; works on paper from self- taught artist Bill Traylor, also from Alabama; and a major Frist-organized retrospective of the work of internationally acclaimed photographer, Carrie Mae Weems.
