BSM Celebrates Women Composers With THE MUSIC OF REBECCA CLARKE

Bloomingdale School of Music (BSM) is pleased to continue its mini-series celebrating the music of women composers with a concert entitled, The Music of Rebecca Clarke on Friday, March 9th at 7:00 pm.  This free concert will be held at the David Greer Recital Hall at the school's home site at 323 West 108th Street in Manhattan. Seating is limited. Led by BSM piano faculty member Tim McCullough and joined by mezzo soprano Lara Nie and violist Ann Roggen, the program shines a spotlight on the music of the English/American composer Rebecca Clarke and features vocal settings of poems by William Shakespeare and William Blake as well as the epic Viola Sonata.

Gustafer Yellowgold Presents a Family Performance in NYC

Grammy-nominated illustrator and songwriter Morgan Taylor brings the whimsical animations and contagious melodies of Gustafer Yellowgold to the Jewish Museum for a family performance on Sunday, October 16 at 11:30 am.  Taylor combines live images and music in what The New York Times calls 'a cross between Yellow Submarine and Dr. Seuss.' The program features tunes about the Earth, the Sun and nature in celebration of the holiday of Sukkot.
JOSH AND THE JAMTONES Come to NYC

The kids indie rock band Josh & The Jamtones will perform at the Jewish Museum on Sunday, October 9 at 11:30 am. Fronted by singer/songwriter Josh Shriber, their interactive concerts get crowds of any age moving their bodies and singing along. Josh seamlessly blends roots/reggae/ska stylings, feel-good pop, folk punk, country ballads, New Orleans-style street music and kid-friendly improv comedy. The concert will feature songs from The Jamtones' critically-acclaimed family records, Rocksteady and Jump Up! as well as tunes in celebration of the fall Jewish holidays from the album, Jammin with Jew Vol 1 & 2.
Jewish Museum Offering Studio And Family Art Sessions

The Jewish Museum has expanded its Sunday art workshop series for families, offering an immersive experience that includes weekly art projects and a new collaborative artmaking component. In Studio Art Sessions, families will have the opportunity to contribute to an ongoing large scale work of art, which will change every two months. Each collective project will explore unconventional approaches to artmaking, using unique materials and concepts that relate to artwork on view or in the Jewish Museum's collection.
The Jewish Museum Announces Fall 2016 Family Programs

The Jewish Museum launches its fall 2016 season of family programs in September with a lively array of concerts, art workshops, and more.  The line-up includes Sunday concerts by The FunkeyMonkeys on September 25, Josh and the Jamtones on October 9, Gustafer Yellowgold on October 16, Alex & the Kaleidoscope on November 20, and Oran Etkin on December 25.  Also on the schedule are: the annual Hanukkah Family Day on December 18; holiday and vacation week drop-in art workshops October 20 and 21 and December 26, 27, 29 & 30; and family art activities every Sunday starting September 11.
Elizabeth Mitchell to Perform Folk Rock Concert for Families at Jewish Museum, 4/10

Two-time Grammy nominee Elizabeth Mitchell and You Are My Flower will perform a folk rock concert for families on Sunday, April 10 at 11:30am at the Jewish Museum. Mitchell, a singer and guitarist known for reinterpreting classic folk songs for children and their parents, will be joined by her fourteen-year-old daughter Storey, her husband Daniel Littleton, and special guests Simi Stone and The M Shanghai Stringband. Concert attendees can enjoy cherished folk classics such as You Are My Sunshine and Peace Like a River, as well as soulful originals from Mitchell's most recent album, Turn Turn Turn, her collaboration with Dan Zanes.
The Pop Ups to Perform Family Concert at Jewish Museum, 3/20

The acclaimed kids' indie rock duo The Pop Ups will perform a concert for families at The Jewish Museum on Sunday, March 20 at 11:30am. Fresh from appearances on the kids' stages at Austin City Limits and Lollapalooza, The Pop Up will perform songs from their new album, Great Pretenders Club, as well as classics from their two Grammy-nominated albums, Radio Jungle and Appetite for Construction. The duo transports family audiences into a world where imagination becomes reality with a fire-stomping rhino, dancing robots, giant insects, live drawing, huge balloons, and a costume party for Purim. This highly interactive show is propelled by dance beats that will catapult both young and old out of their seats.
The Paper Bag Players Theater to Host Workshop & Performances at Jewish Museum, 3/13

The Paper Bag Players, celebrating their 57th year of bringing original, contemporary musical theater to kids, return to the Jewish Museum on Sunday, March 13 with two performances of Pop-Pop-Popcorn, at 11:30 am and 2pm; and Become a Paper Bag Player, a special behind-the-scenes workshop at 10:30am.
Vered and the Babes Family Concert Set for Jewish Museum, 2/21

Vered and the Babes will star in a hip concert for families at the Jewish Museum on Sunday, February 21 at 11:30 am. The band, featuring Vered Benhorin with Rob Jost and Matt Hilgenberg, performs funny, poignant, and upbeat melodies, reminiscent of doo-wop, from their hit albums Good Morning My Love, praised by the Parents' Choice Foundation as having "warmth enough to melt the polar ice cap." Vered and the Babes play a variety of instruments, ranging from French horn and trumpet to pots and pans, with kids and parents alike jumping and singing along. The concert program includes songs geared to helping new parents bond with their babies as well as tunes for children up to age 6.
David Weinstone and The Music for Aardvarks Band to Play Family Concert at Jewish Museum, 2/7

David Weinstone and The Music for Aardvarks Band will perform two concerts for kids at the Jewish Museum on Sunday, February 7 at 11:30 am and 2:00 pm. Families will hear favorite songs celebrating being a kid in New York City such as City Kid, Taxi, Jack Hammer Joe and Modern Art. David Weinstone, founder of Music for Aardvarks, explains, 'our shows are rockin', and we try to have as much audience participation as possible. We've even had kids come up on stage with us to sing or dance.'
Grammy Winner Mister G to Play Family Concert at Jewish Museum, 1/31

Mister G, winner of the 2015 Latin Grammy Award for Best Children's Album, will perform a concert for families at the Jewish Museum on Sunday, January 31 at 11:30am.  Spanning genres from bluegrass and bossa nova to funk and folk, Mister G has been called a "kid-friendly bilingual rock star" by The Washington Post, and People Magazine declared his dynamic music "irresistible."  He will perform hits from albums such as his Grammy-winning Los Animales and Mitzvah Bus, a new collection of 14 original Jewish songs for children in English, Hebrew, Spanish and Yiddish.

Etkin will be presenting a new production, 'Sing Sing Sing - Benny Goodman in the Kingdom of Swing,' incorporating music from Etkin's new CD for adults, What's New? Reimagining Benny Goodman, and playing it in a child-friendly way. Together with a full band, Etkin take kids on an adventure through the Kingdom of Swing, meeting King Oliver, Duke Ellington, and a little boy named Benny Goodman who grows up to become the King of Swing. Just as Benny Goodman was welcomed by the regal masters that came before him, children too are encouraged to express themselves and find their own voices in the Kingdom of Swing through this fun and interactive concert experience.

Joanie Leeds and The Nightlights will perform a kids' rock concert at The Jewish Museum on Sunday, December 20 at 2pm. The Brooklyn-based kindie rocker Joanie Leeds and her band bring families to their feet with interactive, high energy performances incorporating a unique and playful sound ranging from pop-rock to gospel to country. They will perform hits from her latest releases, Good Egg and Meshugana.
