Many British screen stars may seem to have burst on to the screen as comparative unknowns, except to theatre devotees who knew them already from the stage. What follows is a list of five actors from five storied plays whom I managed to catch live before celluloid fame came to call.

Dusty Hughes' new play sees Hampstead Theatre putting together veterans of the venue. From Alice Hamilton at the direction (previously at the helm of Every Day I Make Greatness Happen earlier in the season) to Sara Kestelman (Filthy Business among others), the team is almost fully comprised of artists who've previously worked at that address, including Hughes, who premiered Bad Language in 1983 starrting Alan Rickman.

First performed in London in 1989 at the Piccadilly Theatre (with stars including the inimitable Brian Blessed), the musical version of Metropolis (by Joe Brooks and Dusty Hughes) has been revived for a short Off West End run at Ye Olde Rose and Crown in Walthamstow.
Theatre Royal Plymouth's MONSTER RAVING LOONY Opens Tonight

With its UK premiere earlier this year at The Drum, Theatre Royal Plymouth's fast-paced, hilarious and (slightly) bonkers Monster Raving Loony brings its party fun and punkish anarchy to Soho Theatre next month.  Opening tonight 17 May, Monster Raving Loony by James Graham will run until 18 June.
Full Cast Announced for Theatre Royal Plymouth's MONSTER RAVING LOONY

Simon Stokes, Artistic Director of Theatre Royal Plymouth, today announces full cast for the London run of Monster Raving Loony. Samuel James reprises his role as Screaming Lord Sutch, alongside original cast members including Joseph Alessi, Joanna Brookes, Jack Brown, and composer/musician Tom Attwood and they are joined by Vivienne Acheampong who completes the cast for the London run. Set & Costume Design is by Bob Bailey with lighting design by Chahine Yavroyan, audio visual design by Duncan McLean and sound design by Gregory Clarke.  Guest Director is Cal McCrystal (with a trademark bravura farce contribution).

Theatre Royal Plymouth Sets Full Cast of MONSTER RAVING LOONEY

Theatre Royal Plymouth Artistic Director Simon Stokes today announces the full cast for his production of James Graham's Monster Raving Loony.  Samuel James takes the role of Screaming Lord Sutch, with Joseph Alessi, Camilla Beeput, Joanna Brookes, Jack Brown playing a number of different characters. The production opens on Wednesday 10th February, with previews from Saturday 6th February, and runs until Sat 27th February.
