Saratoga Performing Arts Center Launches McCormack Jazz Series
Saratoga Performing Arts Center has established a new annual McCormack Jazz Series in honor of “Saratoga’s Champion of Jazz,” Don McCormack, and his family. Presented as part of SPAC’s 2024-2025 fall and spring seasons in Spa Little Theater, the inaugural series will feature a roster of international talent.
Django Reinhardt NY Festival To Celebrate 20th Anniversary at Birdland Jazz Club
This November marks the 20th Anniversary of the Django Reinhardt NY Festival at Birdland Jazz Club, produced by Pat Philips-Stratta and her late partner, conductor Ettore Stratta. The festival, which began in 1999, has featured many talented musicians over the years who embody the gypsy jazz style of music by the great Django Reinhardt. Of these was guitarist Dorado Schmitt.
Harris Center Presents Django Festival All-Stars
'On this stage, you see…five gypsies!' Carrying forward the 'Hot Jazz' legacy of the great Django Reinhardt, this internationally renowned group features one of Europe's greatest musical families, guitarist/violinist Dorado Schmitt and his son Amati. The family is joined by virtuoso violinist Pierre Blanchard and accordionist extraordinaire Ludovic Beier, who 'played as great a solo on his accordion as Toots Thielemans at his zenith' (Downbeat). 'Dorado Schmitt's virtuosity was on full display via lightning-fast finger work, powerful strumming, wild sweeps across the fingerboard and astonishingly fast tempos. Schmitt displayed complete mastery of Gypsy jazz guitar technique' (Los Angeles Times).
November Events Announced At The Royal Conservatory Of Music
A new series for the 10th anniversary concert season brings Canadian trailblazers, each with a unique voice and perspective. The series continues with Canadian saxophone and flute master Jane Bunnett & Maqueque All-Stars on November 30. Bunnett once again brings the soul of Cuba to the hearts of Canadian music lovers with current and former Maqueque band members, including vocalist Dayme Arocena.

The 'hot swing' musical style of DJANGO holds the crowd like a magnet. The Django Reinhardt NY Festival continues at Birdland for the 19thsuccessful year, Nov. 6-11.
Legendary gypsy great Dorado Schmitt from the Alsace region of France returns with the joy of playing alongside his two sons Samson & Amati, guitar virtuosos of the style. Dorado turns more and more to violin, taught to him by his father as in the gypsy tradition and is passing the torch. The Band is 'on fire', ripping thru hot swinging numbers and will break your heart with a ballad, influenced musically by the top French Jazz violinist Stephane Grappelli as well as America's Duke Ellington and Louis Armstrong.

The group's repertoire combines unique interpretations of Reinhardt classics with original compositions. Praised by critics at the Montreal Jazz Festival, the Kennedy Center, and NYC's famed Birdland, the Django Festival All-Stars were recently classified by The Wall Street Journal as "the best jazz show in town." The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts announces the 2018/19 Jazz Season lineup featuring critically-acclaimed artists, high-energy soloists, internationally renowned groups, and diverse talent. There are classically trained violists and violinists that pull from hip-hop influences, innovative arrangements of jazz standards, plus deeply rooted traditions of swing and blues. The season presents this generation of jazz artists in a new light, while paying homage to the iconic evolution of the genre and its legendary history around the world.
