Gareth Nicholls Appointed Interim Artistic Director Of The Traverse Theatre

The Board of the Traverse Theatre has today announced that it has appointed Gareth Nicholls, previously the organisation's Associate Director, to the position of Interim Artistic Director. He will assume the role, working with Executive Producer Linda Crooks, from 5th December, the date on which Outgoing Artistic Director Orla O'Loughlin departs from the organisation to take up the post of Vice Principal and Director of Drama at Guildhall School of Music and Drama full time from the beginning of 2019.

59E59 Theaters (Elysabeth Kleinhans, Artistic Director; Peter Tear, Executive Producer; Brian Beirne, Managing Director) is thrilled to launch the 2017 Brits Off Broadway festival during Scotland Week with A GAMBLER'S GUIDE TO DYING, written and performed by Gary McNair and directed by Gareth Nicholls. Produced by Show And Tell, with support from Creative Scotland, Made In Scotland, and the Traverse Theatre, A GAMBLER'S GUIDE TO DYING begins performances on Tuesday, April 4 for a limited engagement through Sunday, April 23.  Press Opening is Sunday, April 9 at 3:30 PM. The performance schedule is Tuesday - Thursday at 7:30 PM; Friday at8:30 PM; Saturday at 2:30 PM & 8:30 PM; and Sunday at 3:30 PM. Please note there is an added performance on Sunday, April 23 at 7:30 PM. Performances are at 59E59 Theaters (59 East 59thStreet, between Park and Madison Avenues). A GAMBLER'S GUIDE TO DYING Tours the UK and Comes to the Southwark Playhouse - Sunday 2 & Sunday 9 October

This monologue from the enigmatic Scottish performer tells the story of one boy's grandad who won a fortune betting on the 1966 football World Cup and, when diagnosed with cancer, gambled it all on living to see the year 2000. The performance, a story of what we live for and what we leave behind, was a sell-out success at the Traverse Theatre, Edinburgh during the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2015 delighting audiences of all generations with this extraordinary tale. The show has since enjoyed sell-out runs at the Adelaide Fringe in Australia and the prestigious Spoleto Festival in Charleston, USA. Following this UK tour, Gary will perform the show in New York in 2017.
