BWW Review: GENTLY DOWN THE STREAM at New Conservatory Theatre Center
by Steve Murray - Dec 18, 2021
What could have been a cute, bittersweet May-December romcom is transformed into a transcendent homage to the lost art of oral history by the thoughtful script of Pulitzer Prize and two-time Tony nominee Martin Sherman and an exceptionally moving performance by Donald Currie. Gently Down the Stream intelligently speaks to a generation of gay men lucky enough to have survived the carnage of our pasts and reinforces the fact that we did survive, will always remember, but must move on. Theatre this moving comes around rarely folks, so this is a must-see.
LE SWITCH by Philip Dawkins Gets Extended to 12/10
by A.A. Cristi - Nov 11, 2017
New Conservatory Theatre Center is thrilled to extend the regional premiere of Le Switch by Philip Dawkins and directed by Tom Bruett. Following the success of NCTC's production of Dawkins' play The Homosexuals in its 2013-14 Season, NCTC brings the play that has been hailed by Chicago Tribune as another significant play from one of the Chicago's theater's brightest talents. Le Switch follows David, a self-possessed New York librarian with a need for classification, a love for collecting rare books he never opens and a strong ambivalence about marriage. What happens when his best friend's bachelor party takes him to Montreal, and he is swept off his feet by a charming young florist? A witty and whimsical romantic comedy tied in knots.

Cutting Ball Theater Presents First Installment of Hidden Classics Reading Series THE NATURAL RELATIONS Today
by BWW News Desk - Nov 3, 2013
Cutting Ball Theater presents the first installment of this season's Hidden Classics Reading Series, THE NATURAL RELATIONS and other plays, by Brazilian playwright Qorpo Santo, in new translations by Cutting Ball resident playwright Andrew Saito. Regarded in his day as insane, Santo's plays were rediscovered by intellectuals in the 1960s. Although still largely overlooked by the western theatrical community, this 19th century Brazilian playwright is thought by many to have written the first Absurdist plays, anticipating works by Beckett, Jarry, Genet and Ionesco. Satio's translations represent the first time these plays will be presented in English. Andrew Saito and Rem Myers co-direct THE NATURAL RELATIONS, featuring Donald Currie, Gwyneth Richards, Marilet Matinez, Maura Halloran and Leah Anderson.
