BWW Review: LAWBREAKERS: A FAST AND FURIOUS HISTORY OF WOMEN'S SUFFRAGE at Stage One Family Theatre
What's the point of voting? StageOne Family Theater sets out to answer this question in the premiere production of Lawbreakers: A Fast and Furious History of Women's Suffrage. Commissioned from native Louisville playwright Diana Grisanti, this hyperactive whirlwind of race and gender inequality is fast-paced with its lessons and bold in its message, and with a first public performance of predominantly young female, this play is sure to inspire the leaders of tomorrow.
BWW Feature: MINE at Theatre [502]
When Theatre [502] launched in 2010, it was a personal project from a Louisville Theatre power trio, Amy Attaway, Gil Reyes, and Mike Brooks. All three brought strong experience and sound reputations for working with actors and designers. Their vision for the company was to produce contemporary plays that would be new to Louisville, '...filling a gap in what small theatre companies were doing here at the time' according to Ms. Attaway. All three were directors and the first seasons tended to take a three-point stance, each one in charge of one production.
BWW Previews: OSCAR AND FELIX/FUNDRAISING CABARET at Theatre Reprise/The Chicken Coop
Why start a theatre company? Louisville already hosts a healthy roster of theatre companies, most of them run by people finding precious hours to make the commitment outside of a full-time job. Against the odds, two veteran actor/directors are starting new initiatives in the community: Jason Cooper (Pandora Productions, CenterStage) is calling his venture The Chicken Coop Theatre Company, while Craig Nolan Highley (Wayward Actors Company, The Alley Theater, CenterStage) and Jeremy Guiterrez (Wayward Actors Company, The Alley Theater) have chosen the moniker, Theatre Reprise. (full disclosure: both Jason Cooper and Craig Nolan Highley are content contributors to Arts-Louisville.com)
BWW Review: SERGIO'S MUSEUM at Theatre [502]
Class conflict, the value of beauty, and the ties that bind us are just a few of the themes running through Theatre [502]'s moving new production Sergio's Museum. Set in the last days of Mexico's aristocracy, the play, the latest collaboration from playwright Steve Moulds and director Diana Grisanti, follows the plight of Sergio, a recently orphaned eleven-year-old boy

BWW Review: THE PATRON SAINT OF LOSING SLEEP at Looking For Lilith Theatre Company
Sleeplessness is something we can all relate to, and The Patron Saint of Losing Sleep opens with a wonderful comic montage of Ada (Trina Fischer) struggling with insomnia. Up, down, tossing, turning, collapsing to the floor like a cartoon. Trina Fischer's performance as Ada begins with an engaging slapstick grace that barely hints at where this character will take us before the play is over.
