Like any art form, theatrical musicals can run the gamut in tone, style, tenor and execution. You can find everything from dark, serious brooding drama to light-as-a-feather, fluff-filled entertainments. Which is not to say that either side of the spectrum is better or worse than the other, there are highs and lows at both ends of the spectrum.
