BIO

From the land of tomatoes and wine grapes, this professional player of pretend is a Northern California theatre artist currently based in Sacramento.

Devin proudly holds a Bachelors of Art in Theatre Performance from Sacramento State University. While at Sacramento State, she performed in various plays, wrote short pieces for departmental clubs, and competed as an Irene Ryan nominee. She graduated with high honors and left with the Outstanding Student Award for demonstrating her discipline as an artist across the entire Department of Theatre and Dance.

Looking to explore her creativity, Devin applied for a directing internship with Michael Stevenson, Artistic Director of Capital Stage, where, under his guidance, she assistant directed their 2017 production of STUPID F##CKING BIRD by Aaaron Posner.

Since, she has worked throughout the area as a professional actor, teaching artist, choreographer, and creative arts administrator.

Her commitment to a professional career in theatre and her passion for equity in the arts lead her to pursue training with Focus5 Inc. – a program focused on aligning arts integration inside the classrooms. Through her work as a teaching artist, she remains committed to social justice and equitable artistic representation and inclusion in all opportunities!

In addition to acting and teaching, Devin is an aspiring playwright. Her writing celebrates theatricality, featuring absurdity in truth-telling and the struggle to reconcile consciousness. She loves oddballs, comedic banter, and tragedy; in a Shakespearean-esque way!

Also important: Devin is a cold brew enthusiast, an obsessed dog mama, and a moody reader.

Review: POTUS Gets My Vote at Big Idea Theatre

When a show opens with what is widely considered one of the most offensive words in the English language, I’m hooked. Selina Fillinger’s POTUS: Or, Behind Every Great Dumbass Are Seven Women Trying to Keep Him Alive does just that. This Tony Award-nominated work is a genius feminist farce brought to life by director Devin Valdez and a fantastic all-female cast. It also may be my favorite Big Idea Theatre production to date.

Review: PREDICTOR Foretells a Hit at Capital Stage

“Who made that?” is the question we didn’t know we needed the answer to. In Jennifer Blackmer’s new play, Predictor, we learn that it’s one of the most important questions in the struggle for female equality. Throughout history, men have taken credit for women’s accomplishments. Things such as wireless communication (created by Hedy Lamarr), a cure for leprosy (Alice Ball), disposable diapers (Marion Donovan), and even the game Monopoly (Elizabeth Magie Phillips) were all invented by women whose names were lost in the annals of history until recently. Thankfully, due to the diligence of Blackmer, we also now know the name Meg Crane, who changed the course of women’s lives forever with her invention: the home pregnancy test.
