BWW Review: “THE RESISTIBLE RISE OF ARTURO UI” Stakes Claim to His Name at Jobsite Theater

The show opens with a Ghost Light center stage. As most shows of a Brechtian nature go, characters of nondescript fashion layout the evening events in the manner of Prologue. The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui, or as it is subtitled “The Parable Play,” tells the story of the rise of Arturo Ui a fictional Chicago Mobster as he ruthlessly tries to control the Chicago vegetable market despite opposition. A political satire based on Adolf Hitler’s rise to power in Nazi Germany prior to the events of World War II.

Juneteenth commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. In response to the civil uprising, a reaction to the murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and countless others before them, Jobsite Theater and Stageworks Theatre have teamed up with Rory Lawrence Productions. They will join a national presentation of the Juneteenth Justice Theatre Project, a nationwide movement by American theater companies striving to 'change the world, one play at a time.'

Tampa Shakespeare to Offer Free Performances at Waterworks Park

Tampa Shakespeare Festival will be launching their second season on Thursday, March 17th at Waterworks Park in downtown Tampa with William Shakespeare's Richard III and Much Ado About Nothing playing in repertory on alternating nights. The festival will run from Thursday, March 17th until Sunday, April 3rd. Performances will begin at 6pm Thursdays through Saturdays and at 2pm on Sundays. Admission is free to the general public. Israel Horovitz visited Tampa for a week this past February for a week-long residency culminating in a rehearsed staged reading of his play Sins of the Mother that featured a talkback and poetry reading with the award-winning writer, film-maker, and 'Beastie Dad' (he is also the father of Adam 'Ad Rock' Horovitz). He once again returns for the opening week of his play LEBENSRAUM that runs tonight, Jan. 8-31, 2016, in the Shimberg Playhouse at the Straz Center where Jobsite is resident theater company.
