Review: THE HOMBRES Explores Masculinity at Capital Stage
Theatre has long been a vessel to carry voices wanting to be heard, and a springboard for important conversations that need to be had. Capital Stage is taking this responsibility seriously, with its California premiere of The Hombres. Tony Meneses’ contemporary play examines the toxic masculinity prevalent in society, specifically in the Latinx culture.
PCPA to Present THE RIVER BRIDE Beginning in February
PCPA will present The River Bride, the story of folklore, love, regret and two sister who struggle to be true to each other and their hearts. Inspired by the Brothers Grimm and Brazilian folklore, The River Bride takes us to a lyrical 'once upon a time' along the Amazon River. The production will play February 16th through March 5th, 2023 in the Severson Theatre.
Berkeley Playhouse Welcomes Producing Director Of Education & Mainstage
Berkeley Playhouse has announced the addition of Melissa Rivera, a California-born Latina performer, educator, and theater professional to its full time staff. Rivera will join the Berkeley Playhouse leadership team as Producing Director of Education & Mainstage. After an extensive search, Executive Artistic Director Kimberly Dooley, Managing Director Mary K. Lins, and the Berkeley Playhouse Board of Directors confidently selected Rivera as their choice for this new position.

Judith Moreland, director of An Octoroon , returns to direct local favorite James Wheatley as “Pops” in his Capital Stage main stage debut. The Sacramento Premiere of Between Riverside And Crazy will preview Aug. 28th, 29th, and 30th. A Press Opening will be on Sat. Aug. 31st at 8:00 pm. Performances will run through Sep. 29th. PLAYWRIGHTS' REVOLUTION Comes to Capital Stage
As a part of its mission to develop new plays and playwrights, Capital Stage presents its ninth annual new works festival PLAYWRIGHTS REVOLUTION. This year Capital Stage's reading committee reviewed over 350 script submissions from playwrights across the world. This week's festival features the four finalists. From July 25 - 28 these plays will be presented at staged readings by local professional actors and directors at the Capital Stage studios in the E. Claire Raley Studios for the Performing Arts.
