Born in San Jose and raised in Fullerton California, Demetria wanted to be a professional football player, but after a few tough games...Thank God for the Arts! A singer since the age of 12, she is currently an accomplished vocalist, stage, and screen actress, Demetria has a powerful vocal range and a mesmerizing style, singing old-school jazz and blues in the tradition of Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, and Sarah Vaughan.
She has performed in the US, Philippines, and Japan as a professional artist. Demetria has two commercials currently running for Independence Blue Cross and Colonial Penn. Some of her favorite roles include Ethel Waters His Eye is on the Sparrow (Barrymore Award Nominee for Best Actress in a Musical); The Nurse, Hack CBS; Perlene Scott, The Wire HBO; Lutiebell, Purlie; Mrs. Ott, Susannah; Chiffon, Little Shop of Horrors; Susannah, Tintypes, Charlene Woodard Ain't Misbehavin‘ and yes Electra Gypsy. Demetria served as Music Director for the Emmy Award-winning "Gimme the Mic Philadelphia" on WPSG-TV, UPN57.
Demetria was recently named a 2023 Lunt-Fontanne Fellow and she is grateful to Bernard Harvard, President, and Producing Artistic Director for nominating her for this prestigious honor.
Demetria has her own band, Demetria & The Fellas as well as sings with an array of bands from a Duo, to a quartet, to a 15-piece Big Band. She has been a featured vocalist at numerous local theatres and Jazz Series as well as Philadelphia’s 4th of July on the Parkway, World Cafe Live Philly & Delaware, and Cape May Jazz Festival to name a few.
