The new production of Smokey Joe's Cafe: The Songs of Leiber & Stoller, officially opened last night, Sunday, July 22. The vibrant nine-member ensemble led by director choreographer Joshua Bergasse brings new life to more than 30 classic songs including 'Stand by Me,' 'I'm a Woman,' 'Hound Dog,' 'Fools Fall In Love,' 'On Broadway,' 'Yakety Yak,' 'Pearl's a Singer,' 'Treat Me Nice,' 'There Goes My Baby,' 'Love Potion #9,' 'Jailhouse Rock,' and 'Spanish Harlem.'
People's Light to Present RING OF FIRE, 7/20-8/14
Take an exuberant ride alongside an American icon in the regional premiere of Ring of Fire: The Music of Johnny Cash, playing at People's Light from July 20-August 14, 2016. New Yorkers will be dancing in the streets this December when Broadway, regional and Las Vegas star, Andrea Bell Wolff, reprises her smashing show "Bad Girls Do Cry," conceived and written by Andrea Bell Wolff and Barry Levitt, at Iridium on Dec. 22. The music and comedy performance featuring the diminutive performer with giant-size talent is dedicated to the sounds of 1960s girl groups. Musical Director Barry Levitt, leading a quintet as well as additional singers Carolee Goodgold and Deb Lyons, will accompany Andrea in a string of hits. Dennis Deal directs the show. "Bad Girls Do Cry" will play one show Dec. 22nd at 8:30pm at Iridium, 1650 Broadway in Manhattan (51st Street). Reservations are essential. On February 9, 54 Below will welcome the original company of Broadway's SMOKEY JOE'S CAFE for '54 Sings Smokey Joe's Cafe'. There will be two shows, one at 7 p.m. and one at 9:30 p.m. Tickets are $50-$60.
The show is described on 54 Below's website as: 'On March 2, 1995, a musical phenomenon opened on Broadway. Smokey Joe's Cafe: The Songs of Leiber & Stoller would go on to run 2,036 performances and continue to electrify audiences around the world.
'54 Below is delighted to present a one night only reunion featuring members of the original Broadway company of this swingin' hit show, including Adrian Bailey, Brenda Braxton, DeLee Lively, Deb Lyons, Frederick Owens and Darryl Williams (more to be announced!).
