Review: B.R.O.K.E.N CODE B.I.R.D SWITCHING at Berkshire Theatre Group
by Marc Savitt - Jun 27, 2022
The season opener of Berkshire Theatre Group’s 2022 season B.R.O.K.E.N CODE B.I.R.D SWITCHING is not, as the title might suggest to some, about Native American Communication Specialists during WWII. It is one of those relatively infrequent theatrical experiences in which each of the many individuals involved in the production, and their skillful execution of their relative elements supports one another so particularly well, that that the whole is greater than the sum of the parts it’s made of. A powerful piece of theatre in which art imitates life extremely well. An experience that leaves the viewer mouth agape saying WOW and providing an abundance of food for thought.

BWW Review: World Premiere of PATIENCE Explores Competition and Commitment at The Paradise Factory
by Derek McCracken - Aug 13, 2019
In Patience, Daniel (Joshua Gitta) is a former prodigy who is now the world's #1 professional solitaire player. He's also going through a millennial 'mid-life' crisis. Young, black, talented, and restless, he inhabits a solo space in a game/sport that values reactions not reflections, shuffling between self-doubt and confidence with a gravitational pull on the people orbiting his success. With his happiness, posterity and legacy all at stake, he navigates his day-to-day existence and choices in light of his long-term trajectory. Playwright Johnny G. Lloyd deals us a winning hand: a compelling ensemble of relatable characters within a wryly written house-of-cards story that doesn't collapse under its own thematic weight.
Corkscrew Theater Festival Closes With Johnny G. Lloyd's PATIENCE, July 24-August 3
by A.A. Cristi - Jun 27, 2019
Corkscrew Theater Festival's third annual summer season concludes with the world premiere of Johnny G. Lloyd's Patience. Directed by Velani Dibba and running July 24-August 3, Patience follows the world's #1 professional solitaire player, a young black man named Daniel, as he struggles to allow other people into his life while fending off an even younger challenger, a teenager named Ella. In tracing the kinship and competition between the two elite players, Patience illustrates a relationship paralleling that of Venus and Serena Williams, exploring questions about excellence, opportunity, and jealousy in a less athletic (though still high-stakes) setting.
