DAVID TRACY (Director of Marketing and Publicity, THE ACTIVE THEATER) is proud to call himself both an actor and administrator with The Active Theater.
Onstage, David starred in the workshop of VAMPED!, a new musical (Dave Ogrin, composer). He appeared in the Philadelphia Fringe/Live Arts Festival production of GETTING YOUR LIFE and has been seen in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s MUSIC OF THE NIGHT touring Germany, Italy, and Austria (performing at the famed Vienna Opera House). Regionally, he has appeared in SWEENEY TODD, THE MUSIC MAN, A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM (Puck), THE JUDAS KISS (Robbie), EVITA (Magaldi), THE VELVETEEN RABBIT (The Little Boy), SHE LOVES ME (Kodaly), THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW (Frank N. Furter), and spent two seasons with The Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival appearing in RICHARD III (Russell Treyz, director), TWELFTH NIGHT, WINNIE THE POOH, and THE FESTIVAL GREENSHOW (Christopher Patrick Mullen, director). David's concert appearances include such NYC venues as The Duplex, Don't Tell Mama's and Rose's Turn as well performances with The Reading Symphony Orchestra (Reading, PA).
Offstage, David joined The Active Theater in 2009, during it's second season, and has created artwork/logos for productions including ROMANCE/ROMANCE (directed by The Fulton Opera House's current Artistic Director Marc Robin), the New York premiere of MAGNETIC NORTH (directed by Jeremy Dobrish and co-produced by Greg Schaffert), the world premiere of Anthony Dodge's "Femme-Noir" mystery VENUS FLYTRAP starring Tony Nominee Xanthe Elbrick and directed by Tony Award Nominee Marcia Milgrom Dodge), as well as the world premiere of Matthew Keuter's BRIDGEBOY.
Aside from overseeing the total marketing, publicity, advertising, and promotion of the company and it's productions, David created the The Active Theater's ACTIVE ARTS AWARD ceremony which honored Academy Award Winner and Tony Nominee Estelle Parsons, who began her career in off-off broadway theater; almost identical to how The Active Theater first began. Her presence, support, and influential speech not only solidified the notion that what The Active Theater is doing is worthy; but it is necessary.
In line with the The Active Theater's mission, David is committed to helping the company produce thought-provoking, Contemporary American theater that gives audiences an opportunity to examine more closely the world that we all share. More specifically: to give emerging artists the opportunity to team with respected industry professionals to create never before-seen invigorating collaborations; to deliver diverse artistic programming; to develop new plays and lead them through the development process with a goal of a fully realized production as part of our main stage season; to partner with other organizations committed to social responsibility; to develop, engage, and stimulate a broad audience that extends beyond the committed New York City theatergoer, and finally: to establish The Active Theater as a unique asset to the New York City community and beyond.
David graduated from DeSales University with a B.A. in Theater Performance and a minor in Marketing. His thrilled to be a part of The Active Theater where he put both of these skill sets to use with such an amazing team of artists!
