Maestro Gerard Schwarz and narrator Jon Secada embark upon a newly crafted reimagining of Sergei Prokofiev's musical masterpiece when Palm Beach Symphony premieres “The Adventures of Peter and the Wolf” as part of the Dale A. McNulty Children's Concert Series on Sunday, October 16 at 3 p.m. at the Eissey Campus Theater on the Palm Beach State College campus.
The OMNI Ensemble Begins Its 37th Season
The OMNI Ensemble will begin its 37th season of concerts in the recital hall at the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music on Saturday evening, November 16, 2019 at 8:00 pm. Music Director/Flutist David Wechsler, will be joined by violist Amadi Azikiwe and harpist Chelsea Lane for a concert of music for flute, viola, and harp. Works include Debussy's Sonata for flute, viola and harp, Maurice Ravel's Le Tombeau de Couperin, David Stock's A Vanished World, Arnold Bax's Elegaic Trio and David Wechsler's Three Movements for flute, viola and harp. Continuing as the chamber music group in residence at the Brooklyn Conservatory, the OMNI Ensemble will continue to perform concerts of enormous variety all designed to provide their audience with a musical diversity not ordinarily encountered by one chamber music group. Throughout the season they perform in the recital hall at the College of Staten Island and the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music. Portland Stage Will Stage the World Premiere of REFUGE MALJA
Portland Stage will stage the World Premiere of Refuge Malja by Bess Welden with Arabic Translation by Ali Al-Mshakheel begins Oct 30 through Nov 18, opens for reviewers Friday Nov 2, 2018. When a Jewish-American war photographer feels compelled to assist a young refugee who steps in front of her camera, she calls an old friend to translate but hesitates to reveal why she is so drawn to the boy. This poetic, decade-spanning drama explores how we each define and find our own malja (refuge). Affiliate Artist Bess Welden's Refuge Malja was developed as part of the 2017 Little Festival of the Unexpected and was subsequently workshopped in the Studio Series in January of 2018. Refuge Malja is made possible with support from the Maine Humanities Council and the Maine Arts Commission.

Portland Stage mounts the annual Little Festival of the Unexpected with new play workshops from May 10 through May 13, 2017. Little Festival is a week-long event dedicated to public readings of new American plays. Three playwrights are in residence at Portland Stage throughout the week developing their scripts with input from actors, directors, dramaturgs, and audience members.
