NHM Kouzina Celebrated Community And Great Food With Both Familiar And New Faces
On the eve of opening the highly anticipated and newest addition to his Avli Restaurant brand, Avli River North, Chef Louie Alexakis was at the National Hellenic Museum (NHM). The Museum's annual food-focused fundraiser, Kouzina, in which Alexakis participates annually was held Nov. 7, and his commitment unwavering. Joined by chefs representing 15 additional Chicago-area restaurants, the culinary spectacular drew hundreds of guests and raised thousands of dollars for the NHM which provides educational and cultural programming for the whole community. An added feature to this year's NHM Kouzina was an appearance by Diane Kochilas, author and star of the PBS television series, My Greek Table, who spoke about the food of Ikaria, a Greek island known as a?oeThe Island of Long Life.a?? NHM Kouzina 2018, the National Hellenic Museum's longstanding fundraiser, continued its success with a crowd of hundreds of food lovers, representatives of the food and hospitality industries, and more on Thursday, November 1. NHM Kouzina 2018, "A Twist on the Classics," was held at the National Hellenic Museum at 333 S. Halsted Street from 6:30 - 10 p.m. The Museum raised funds in support of its educational and cultural programming during the night of mingling, drinking and dining with Chicago's culinary elite. One of Chicago's most exciting, "hidden gem" culinary events, Kouzina introduced guests to both classic and innovative Mediterranean flavors offering the chance to taste their way through bites from several of the city's best chefs.

New Yiddish Rep to Present MAKING STALIN LAUGH in May
New Yiddish Rep is presenting the US premiere of 'Making Stalin Laugh,' British playwright David Schneider's dark comedy that details the events leading up to the chilling silencing by Stalin of the revered Yiddish actor Solomon Mikhoels. Directed by Allen Lewis Rickman, the developmental workshop production plays an exclusive two-night engagement at Theatre 80, 80 St. Marks Place in the East Village, Sunday and Monday May 17 and 18, both at 7pm. The production's multi-lingual cast includes Israeli television star Gera Sandler (as Mikhoels), and Yelena Shmulenson ('A Serious Man').
