Catherine Millsom Will Star In New Play FROM AFAR By David Coverdale At VAULT Festival 2019
'Mum said you could tell everything you needed to know about a person from their pencil case. I always wondered if she did that when she was choosing to marry my Dad, but now I know that isn't the kind of question I should be asking. TOMMY BOLIN'S DREAMERS Comes to Boulder Theater, 3/30
Tommy Bolin was born to Barb and Rich Bolin in Sioux City, Iowa, August 3 1951. At age five (!) Rich, took him to see Elvis Presley LIVE and Tommy's path, as it turns out, was set. The very blue collar Bolin family did all they could for Tommy, including buying him his first guitar, the obligatory Sears Silver-tone. His first Sioux City teen band was The Miserlous, followed in 1964 at age 13, by Denny and The Triumphs, which morphed into Patch of Blue. In 1999, they were was inducted in the Iowa Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. After leaving Patch of Blue, Tommy gigged with The Chateaux, based in Vermillion, South Dakota, where he met their drummer, Bobby Berge. It was at a gig with them there they he met John Tesar, who wrote lyrics for Tommy throughout his career. But Tommy wasn't "fitting in" at school. After being suspended from Central High School for his hair being too long, then cutting it short, and still being suspended, Barb and Rich supported 16 year old Tommy in leaving Sioux City. A one way bus ticket to Denver, Colorado was all he needed to start his new musical career.
BWW Review: Jill Kargman is the Quintessential New Yorker in her Café Carlyle Debut STAIRWAY TO CABARET
Jill Kargman is a pleasant singer. Her voice is lovely, in fact, but that is not why audiences joined her inside the legendary Cafe Carlyle for a string of sold-out performances which began on January 17.
No, patrons made their way to the Upper East Side venue on this damp winter evening to hear Kargman's hilarious and often cringe-inducing war stories from her New York City upbringing, through her entrance into show business and Manhattan motherhood. Kargman, whose bawdy humor and unapologetic crudeness undoubtedly had some in the room blushing into their cocktails (her euphemism for the mouth, in particular, is a tickler) saliently strung the show together with influential songs from her past which she deemed 'wildly sexist,' and which she was 're-appropriating as a 42-year-old Jewish female.'
BWW Review: TRISH TINKLER GETS SAVED lacks Rock 'n' Roll at the Randolph Road Theater
For Trish, David Coverdale is her muse. She worships Whitesnake and considers herself to be their ultimate groupie. When Trish (Kristen Jepperson) is invited onto Whitesnake's tour bus, she is in heaven. However, her minute in heavy metal heaven is short lived. Trish is left behind by the tour bus and finds herself wandering into the Eat 'n' Save, a mini-mart in a rapidly changing neighborhood. Trish decides to wait at the Eat 'n' Save for the tour bus to pick her up, against the wishes of Rhonda (Rachael Murray), the mini-mart's manager. Antics abound as Trish tries to convince Rhonda and Jan (Amanda Spellman), Rhonda's employee, to allow her to stay.
