PBS to Air Encore Broadcast of American Experience's STONEWALL UPRISING

When police raided the Stonewall Inn, a popular gay bar in Greenwich Village in New York City on June 28, 1969, the street erupted into violent protests that lasted for days. The Stonewall riots, as they came to be known, marked a major turning point in the modern gay civil rights movement in the United States and around the world. Scheduled in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of the actual events, Kate Davis and David Heilbroner's Stonewall Uprising will have an encore broadcast on American Experience on Tuesday, June 11, 2019, 9:00-10:30 p.m. (check local listings) and available for simultaneous streaming on pbs.org.
BWW Review: MARJORIE PRIME at The Santa Fe Playhouse

Artificial intelligence is very much a part of modern life. Whether it's Alexa, Siri, or even the pleasant voice giving directions via a GPS, we as a society have pretty thoroughly integrated AI into a significant portion of our existence. We connect emotionally with these forms of AI, on some level, too (anyone who has argued aloud with their GPS can verify); but what if it went further? What if these forms of artificial intelligence existed solely for developing those connections? And... what if they took the form of our dearly departed? Such is the premise of Marjorie Prime, the thought provoking new production currently playing at the Santa Fe Playhouse.
BWW Review: HELL YES I'M TOUGH ENOUGH, Park Theatre

Ben Alderton takes swipes at every stripe in the political rainbow, but lacks the precision required to bring a plague on all their houses.
BWW Interview: David Carter of THE MISER at The Oasis Theatre Company

If a singer/actor/dancer is considered a triple threat, New Mexico transplant David Carter is more like a quintuple threat. In addition to being the technical director at the Santa Fe Playhouse and a huge advocate for making the arts (in particular, performing arts) accessible for all, he translated, served as a dramaturg for, and is currently performing in The Oasis Theatre Company's production of Moliere's The Miser. I was able to pick his brain about his theatrical experience, his translation process, and some other artistic endeavors he currently has in the works.

2018 was an amazing year for theatre in Santa Fe and Albuquerque, and if the proposed seasons for area theatres are any indication, 2019 is going to be a great one, too. From classic plays to super contemporary ones, and of course, a decent amount of musicals, this year has a lot for theatregoers to look forward to. I don't know about you, but I feel really powerful right now. After 16 episodes, THE VOICE is finally trusting the American public to take control of the singing competition. There are no more Battles, no more Knockouts, no more Steals, there is just you, me, and the other 11 or so million people who watch the show on any given week! And it couldn't come at a better time, because last week the coaches really screwed the pooch with their final Saves.

Spoiler Alert! Recap and Review: THE VOICE Live Playoffs Night One, 11/10; Full Review!

Great googly moogly, after three and a half years of THE VOICE taped shows, we are finally going to have a live episode of NBC's singing competition show. Now that we are through the Blind Auditions, the Battle Round, and the Knockout Round, the show is now live and America has a chance to vote on its favorite artists.
Spoiler Alert! Recap and Review: THE VOICE Knockout Rounds Night One 10/27; Full Results!

All right, after two weeks, the Battle Rounds are finally over on THE VOICE, now we can get to the real competition... wait, what? There is still a whole other round before America gets to vote? No wonder I always lose interest in this show after the Blinds, it takes a year and a half just to get to the actual voting rounds. That being typed, at least now the artists get to pick their own songs.
