Canada has spoken, and Danielle Wade has been given the coveted red ruby slippers and the role of Dorothy in Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber's production of The Wizard of Oz. Wade, 20, won the eight week long reality competition 'Over the Rainbow' Monday night after a nation-wide vote eliminated runners-up AJ Bridel and Stephanie LaRochelle. Danielle will headline the Mirvish presentation of The Wizard of Oz, opening this Christmas at the Ed Mirvish Theatre.

Joining Lord Lloyd Webber on the search are judges Arlene Philips, Thom Allison and Louise Pitre and host Daryn Jones. BWW was on hand for the first show to bring readers all the excitement as these girls battle it out for a chance to don the ruby slippers and become a star.

After clinching a spot in the top 20 for CBC's OVER THE RAINBOW - the televised search for Dorothy - contestants arrived from all across Canada to be put through their paces at Dorothy Farm. On Monday hundreds of girls ventured out to the CBC studio in downtown Toronto for an open call to cast the next Dorothy in an upcoming production of The Wizard of Oz. Dorothy will be cast via reality TV show Over the Rainbow, where participants will perform songs and be judged each week in the style of Canadian Idol. The winner will don the ruby slippers when The Wizard of Oz opens via Mirvish Productions later this year. BWW was thrilled to be on hand to bring our readers photos from inside the auditions.
