Westport Country Playhouse's New Works Initiative (NWI) continues in its fourth consecutive year of developing new plays and musicals with playwrights, directors, and other artists, culminating in readings before an invited audience. The NWI 2019 Season kicked off on Wednesday, June 12, with a private reading of the new play, "form of a girl unknown," written by Charly Evon Simpson, and directed by Melissa Crespo.
Sutton Foster To Headline Westport Country Playhouse's September Gala
Tony Award-winning Broadway and television star Sutton Foster will headline Westport Country Playhouse's 2018 Gala on Saturday evening, September 8, performing Broadway standards with a trio of musicians. "Sutton effectively stops whatever Broadway show she's in with her amazing combination of talents in dance, song, and a wicked sense of humor," said Mark Lamos, Westport Country Playhouse artistic director. "She's a dazzling throwback to the great Broadway stars of yesteryear."
TWINKLE TAMES A DRAGON to Continue Family Festivities Series at Westport Country Playhouse
Westport Country Playhouse's Family Festivities Series will present the musical "Twinkle Tames a Dragon," based on the brand new book by Katharine Holabird, author of the popular "Angelina Ballerina" series, on Sunday, February 12, for two performances, at 1 p.m., and 4 p.m. Produced by Vital Theatre Company, the show is recommended for ages 2 to 7. Running time is approximately one hour.

Performing the music of the legendary Broadway composing team will be artists Britney Coleman, Kristen Hahn, Robert Sean Leonard, Stephen Mark Lukas, Howard McGillin, Ciara Renee, Mary Testa, Richard Troxell, Max von Essen, Nicholas Ward, and members of the New York Theatre Ballet. Gala Director is Chase Brock, with musical direction by Mary-Mitchell Campbell.

The Gala theme will serve as a springboard for the Playhouse's October production of Lerner & Lowe's "Camelot," a freshly inventive take on the classic musical, directed by Mark Lamos, Playhouse artistic director.
