Daniel Hughes is in constant demand as a conductor, accompanist, coach, and choral clinician. He serves as the Artistic Director & Conductor of the internationally award-winning mixed-voice ensemble The Choral Project — who’s vision is “to transform and heal through music and words.”
He has worked with many of the theatre companies in the south bay including AMTSJ, CMT, WVLO, and SBMT. Theatre credits as a performer, vocal director, or conductor include: BRIGHT STAR, SHE LOVES ME, SWEENEY TODD, GUYS ‘n DOLLS, RAGTIME, PHANTOM, FUNNY GIRL, ANNIE GET YOUR GUN, LEGALLY BLONDE, and GENTLEMEN’S GUIDE TO LOVE AND MURDER. Hughes’s collaborations include performances with respected artists such as The King’s Singers, Canadian Brass, Frederica von Stade, Lisa Vroman, the San José Chamber Orchestra, and Stephen Schwartz.
Hughes has extensive training in piano and voice. Awards include top prizes in the California International Choral Competition, the 58th annual International Eisteddfod, Wales, and the 35th International Choral Competition—Gorizia, Italy); 2013 Artist’s Laureate Award (Arts Council Silicon Valley); The American Prize Award for Choral Direction; and a 2010 Silicon Valley Arts & Business Award for 20+ years of excellence in the arts in the San Francisco Bay Area. He is also a published composer/ arranger, and his biography is featured in "Who’s Who in America."
