BWW Review: THE FANTASTICKS at Orlando Shakes
It’s hard to imagine a musical theatre world without the iconic, simple but lovely, musical THE FANTASTICKS. Opening at the Sullivan Street Playhouse in 1960 and playing a record breaking 42 years (making it the “world’s longest running musical”), Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt’s “little musical that could” has touched hearts and audiences for the last 62 years. It has evolved and changed over that time (more on that in a minute) but has never lost its core appeal – a beautiful, poetic, and highly theatrical tale of the power and depth of love – gained, lost and found again. Adding to the rich history of THE FANTASTICKS is the latest production of the musical at Orlando Shakes – one which delights, warms the heart and reminds us why it’s good to “Try to Remember” every so often.

Based off the popular Magic Tree House book series by Mary Pope Osborne, A NIGHT IN NEW ORLEANS makes its rolling world premiere at Orlando Shakespeare. Not only does this production introduce young audiences to musical theater, it also provided Orlando public school students with an opportunity to receive a generous book donations from amazing corporate partners. Kids of all ages will enjoy reading the stories and then seeing it come to life on stage.

Combining the Theater's pre-existing Imaginations Alive! program with Magic Tree House author Mary Pope Osborne's Classroom Adventures, the Theater's Imaginations Alive!/Classroom Adventure dual program will use the funding to provide tickets and educational programming to Title I 3rd and 4th grade classrooms in Orange County free of charge.
