THE HERO Comes to the Metropolitan Playhouse, Now thru 3/30

The 'invaluable' Metropolitan Playhouse--2011 Obie Award winner--revives The Hero, by Gilbert Emery. Directed by Artistic Director Alex Roe at Metropolitan Playhouse: 220 E 4th Street. Previews begin tonight, March 1, with an opening slated for March 8. The show runs through March 30, 2014.

GAYFEST NYC, Inc. (Bruce Robert Harris and Jack W. Batman, Producers; Craig Wesley Divino,Associate Producer), the country's premier producer of new LGBT-themed plays, will present the Fifth Festival of Plays, a four-week event filled with powerful theatre works spotlighting gay issues. The Festival opens with New York premiere of Moonlight and Love Songswritten by Scott C. Sickles. Directed by Steven Petrillo, the 7-member cast features Nick Bailey, D.H. Johnson, Kathryn Markey, Gerald McCullouch, Robert Meksin, Corey Richmond Skaggs and Christine Verleny. Performances begin Thursday, May 23 and will continue through Sunday, June 2, 2013 at the Abingdon Theatre Arts Complex (312 West 36th Street). Opening night is Friday, May 24, 2013 at 7:30 p.m. All proceeds from GAYFEST NYC benefit the Harvey Milk High School.

Broadway stars Barbara Walsh (Company) and Stephanie D'Abruzzo (Avenue Q) join Bill Connington, the star of ZOMBIE, in performing in a benefit reading of Oscar Wilde's classic comedy, The Importance of Being Earnest ("A Trivial Comedy for Serious People"). Also in the cast are William Connell (The Coast of Utopia), Vivienne Cleary (Peace Warriors), Annmarie Benedict (Robeson), D.H. Johnson (Dodsworth), and Oliver Houser (Spring Awakening, Virginia Rep).
Bill Connington and Paul Anthony Stewart Star in ART Reading 2/16

The New York Society Library and Razors Edge Productions will presenting award-winning actor Bill Connington (ZOMBIE), Emmy-nominated Paul Anthony Stewart (THE GUILDING LIGHT), and D. H. Johnson (DODSWORTH) in a staged reading of the award-winning comedy ART by Yasmina Reza. The play will be directed by Dan Cordle. The event takes place on Thursday, February 16 at 6:30 p.m. at the New York Society Library, 53 East 79th Street, just east of Madison Avenue. The cost is $20 with advance registration, or $25 at the door. First presented on Broadway in 1934, Dodsworth has not received a professional production in New York since, but will be revived at Metropolitan's home at 220 E 4th Street May 15th through June 6th, 2010.
