Spring has sprung, awards season has begun, and the latter is all that really matters to Broadway fans everywhere. Earlier this week, Katharine McPhee and Leslie Odom Jr. announced the 2018 Tony nominations, celebrating the best of the 2017-18 theatre season (and what a season it's been!). Leading the pack were Mean Girls and SpongeBob SquarePants: The Musical with 12 nominations, followed by Angels in America, Rodgers & Hammerstein's Carousel andThe Band's Visit with 11 and Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Parts One and Two with 10. Nickelodeon Brings SlimeZone, Network's First Social Virtual Reality Experience, to IMAX VR Centres Globally
Nickelodeon and IMAX Corporation (NYSE: IMAX) have partnered to bring SlimeZone, the network's first multi-player social virtual reality (VR) experience, to IMAX VR Centres globally. Created in the Nickelodeon Entertainment Lab, SlimeZone allows up to six players to step inside the Nickelodeon virtual world, play games, watch cartoons and slime friends. SlimeZone debuts today exclusively at IMAX VR Centres in Los Angeles, New York City and Toronto, and is scheduled to launch at centers in Shanghai, Bangkok and Manchester (UK) soon.
Nickelodeon Greenlights MUSICAL DARES Brand-New Digital Short-Form Series from Nick Cannon
Nickelodeon has ordered 10 episodes of a brand-new digital short-form series, Musical Dares (working title), a new twist on the classic concept of musical chairs, set to air on Nickelodeon's Youtube channel. Created and executive produced by multi-faceted entertainer Nick Cannon, the live-action game show will combine real kids, physical competition and a full-blown dance party. As part of the work of the Viacom Digital Studios, Musical Dares is Nickelodeon's first original short-form series, and will begin production this summer.
Nickelodeon Developing LOS CASAGRANDES, New Companion Series to Animated Hit THE LOUD HOUSE
Nickelodeon announced today the development of Los Casagrandes (working title), a companion series to the animated hit THE LOUD HOUSE that will follow Lincoln Loud's friend Ronnie Anne and her extended family, the Casagrandes, who live together in the big city. Nickelodeon has also greenlit a fourth season (26 episodes) of The Loud House, which will include a six-episode story arc featuring the Casagrandes. Since its launch in 2016, THE LOUD HOUSE has remained one of Nickelodeon's top-rated shows and is currently the number-one series across television with Kids 2-11 and Kids 6-11 year to date.
Nickelodeon's BLUES CLUES Is Back, Remade for a New Generation of Preschoolers
Nickelodeon will have a new generation of preschoolers searching for clues, as it brings back the beloved puppy Blue in a remake of its groundbreaking series, Blue's Clues. Picked up for 20 episodes, the new Blue's Clues will have a refreshed signature look and casting for the new host will begin this month, including an open call in Southern California on April 14. SpongeBob SquarePants on Broadway officially opened just last night, December 4th, at The Palace Theatre. SpongeBob SquarePants is a new musical with a book by Kyle Jarrow, music supervision, orchestrations and arrangements by Tom Kitt, choreography by Christopher Gattelli, and conceived and directed by Tina Landau.

As BroadwayWorld reported earlier this month, following a critically lauded run in Chicago during Summer 2016, SpongeBob SquarePants will open on Broadway at The Palace Theatre (1564 Broadway - Broadway at 47th Street) this Fall. Preview performances begin Monday, November 6th with an official opening on Monday, December 4th.

Nickelodeon Orders Pair of Rob Dyrdek-Produced Series
Nickelodeon announced today two new sports-themed series from production partners Rob Dyrdek and Shane Nickerson of Superjacket Productions (Fantasy Factory, Ridiculousness): Crashletes, a new viral sports clip series hosted by New England Patriots Super Bowl XLIX Champion and Pro Bowl tight end Rob Gronkowski; and Jagger Eaton's Mega Life (working title), an action-packed docu-series that follows 15-year-old skateboarding phenom Eaton as he skates around the world and hangs out with his idols. Both series will be in production for 20 episodes each and will premiere later this year.
